St. Christina School Newsletter November 14, 2013 Please keep our 2nd grade students in your prayers this week as they make the final preparations before they receive the sacrament of reconciliation on Monday evening. They have been praying and working hard to come closer to Jesus these past weeks. There is a special mass on Sunday at 10:00 for all our primary students where the 2nd graders will be honored. Thank you to Mrs. Donegan, Mrs. McAuliffe, Mrs. Morano, Mrs. Klupshas and Mrs. Bresnahan who worked so hard to make our tribute to the vets on Veterans Day so special. It was a very moving and honorable program. Our Dress Down Day money this month is being donated to Postage For Parcels, a parish organization that sends toiletries and treats to our soldiers. Thank you for your support! On Tuesday we will be acknowledging Anti-Bullying Day. Each child will recite a pledge that they will take home to share with you. They will also receive a peace sticker to wear. Please mark your calendars for an early dismissal on Monday, November 25th – Parent/Teacher Conference Day. Classes will in session until 1:00 and students will eat lunch in school. Students in grades 5 – 8 should attend conferences with their parents. Have a good week! Mary Stokes Classroom Highlights Kindergarten, Room 17 – Congratulations to last week’s Star student Jimmy McDermott. Guest story time reader was Emily McDermott, sister of Jimmy. Also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Brian McDermott. Kindergarten, Room 18 - Nate Goins was our STUDENT OF THE WEEK. Nate is excited about his new baby on the way. He had a "healthy" lunch with Sean Prendergast and Mrs. Johnson. Grade 7 - The Seventh Grade Science Classes performed their first dissection of the year. Brooke Yurisich would like to share her thoughts. When we first got our owl pellet, we had on our gloves and goggles. Then we measured the length, width, height, and weight of our pellet. My group then took our probe and started to open and sort through the hairy pellet. Once opened, I started to take out many bones that I found inside. I pulled out tiny leg bones and a huge rodent skull. We had to probe through all of the fur to get a clear visual. It took me about ten minutes to get all of the hair fully out of the skull. As I examined the teeth, they were very yellow. We then found two tiny hip bones that belonged to a mole. After dissecting, I was very happy. I thought we wouldn't find many bones, but as a group we found tons!!! We carefully looked at the spine and the vertebrae. Dissection of the owl pellet was the second best thing so far this year. P.S. The first was The Hall of Scientists. EARLY DISMISSAL Students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, Parent Teacher Conference Day.
