How To utilize 1% and 3% Funds to help students pay for classes, the following steps must be followed:
1. Identify student need.
2. Have the student apply for financial aid.
1. Even if the student knows that they are ineligible for financial aid, they must apply to be
eligible to receive a tuition waiver.
3. Verify funding/financial aid awards (or lack thereof) with Chris Clendenin, I-AC Financial Aid
Coordinator.
4. If the student is still in need, email Teisha Simmons, I-AC Director, with request for tuition waiver.
1. In the email request, include the full amount you are requesting and explain the
circumstances surrounding the students’ situation.
5. Upon approval from Teisha, notify Daisy Henry, I-AC Temp. Student Services Tech. of the exact
amount requested and the type of funds to be applied (1%, 3% or Director's Discretionary.)
6. Daisy will forward approved request memos, signed by Teisha to Cecelia Chamberlain, CRCD
Executive Officer for Finance & Business, (1% and 3%).
7. Once Cecelia has applied the waiver to the students’ account, she will email UAF Financial Aid and
cc Daisy Henry on the email. Daisy will then let the IAC staff member who requested the waiver
know it has been granted or not.
8. Update tuition waiver request spreadsheet on Google drive
 1% tuition waivers are for those students who show financial need as verified by student FAFSA
application.
o Students who are eligible for financial aid, but are not receiving enough Pell or other
funding to cover their tuition and fees are eligible
 3% tuition waivers are for recruiting and retaining students
o available to students who are close to graduating, but do not have the funding in place to
take courses
o available to students who we are trying to recruit, but do not have the funding in place to
take courses
o it is very important to let the students know that they will need to work to apply for
scholarships and other grants for future semesters
 Eligible students are students from other regions who are participating in one of the
programs housed at IAC (Tribal Management, IAC Rural Human Services, IAC CTT, IAC
Wildland Fire Science, IAC Human Services) and students living in any of the communities
that we serve who are seeking any UAF degree.)
 1% & 3% Tuition Waivers cannot be used to pay debt from prior year semesters
