Grant Application Instructions
REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
DEADLINE: Wednesday, September 23, 2015
Youth Service Hawaii’s Youth Philanthropy Board announces the availability of grant funds (up to
$750) to support service learning projects:
Proposed by school or non- profit group of students with teacher
Address community needs such as:
Homelessness, Environment, Peace, Disaster Preparedness, Elder Needs.
Link to school/subject curriculum
SELECTION CRITERIA
Proposed by school group of students and a teacher of grades 1 – 12th grades. Higher
education students will be accepted if they are partnering/mentoring a grade 1 – 12 group
of students.
Project will address community needs in the areas such as:
Homelessness, Environmental Stewardship, Peace, Disaster Preparedness, Elder
Students will be directly involved in service as part of the project.
Students and teacher will link project to curriculum standards and/or learning objectives
Students and teacher will share their experience with educators in the community in
spring of 2016
In evaluating each application, funding decisions will be made based on the following criteria.
Priority consideration will be given to programs that:




Involve youth in the development and implementation of the project.
Have impact on a broad and diverse population in the community.
The service is connected to an identified need in the community.
Project involves bringing other students in to learn about and work for the community need.
USE OF GRANT FUNDS

Uses include:
 Materials and supplies to carry out service
 Transportation to get to service site
 Food for volunteers

Uses not approved:
o Giving money to individuals or to a non-profit group.
HOW TO APPLY
A grant applicant must:
1. Submit the cover sheet and the Youth Philanthropy Grant Application.
DEADLINE
Complete applications and materials are due no later than 5:00 pm, September 23, 2015.

REVIEW PROCESS
Each application will be reviewed. The Youth Philanthropy Board will ask to meet with the finalist
in the grant selection process. After reviewing applications, and interviewing the applicants,
Youth Philanthropy Board will make recommendations for funding. All applicants will be notified
by mail of the Youth Philanthropy Board’s decisions.
Members of the Youth Philanthropy Board will hold interviews for finalists on Saturday,
October 24 from 9am – 3pm and perhaps the following week.
