SAINT MARY SCHOOL - RECYCLING

Newspapers, junk mail, magazines, and flattened
cardboard.
- In the Shoe Box at the church door: Box Tops for
Education labels, Coke reward codes and ACME
grocery receipts.
PLEASE NOTE: We can no longer accept ink
cartridges.
Many thanks for your help in our recycling efforts.
SAINT MARY SCHOOL NEWS
The students of Saint Mary School recently
participated along with several local schools in the
“America Recycles Day/Recycle Bowl
Competition”. 20.93 tons of paper were recycled
citywide. Saint Mary School collected 2.02 tons of
paper and was the winner with the most pounds of
paper recycled!! A $500 cash prize will be
awarded to the school. We wish to extend our
sincere thanks to all parishioners and friends of
Saint Mary School who supported this project.
HOLY LAND PRAYER PARTNERS - Believing
in the power of prayer, if you are willing to pray for a
pilgrim in the Holy Land, and, likewise be prayed for
daily by a pilgrim at these holy sites. Please call or
email Fr. Dan at: djreed@stbernardstmary.org. Thanks.
OZANAM CENTER, run by the St. Vincent de
Paul Society, is in need of coats to distribute to the
needy. If you, or someone you know, has a coat they
would like to donate (especially men’s and children’s),
please bring these items to the center at 93 Kent
Street,Akron on any Saturdaybetween 10am and
2pm.
Second Baptist Church - HUNGER PROGRAM
We have no program to feed the hungry from our
church, but Pastor Pounds in the church next door feeds
the hungry in our parish. Volunteers are needed and
welcome to help every Monday:
8:30-9:30 - Pick up food from Food Bank
9:30-11:30 - Prepare a Hot Meal
11:30 - 1:00 - Serve the prepared Meal
Members of St. Mary are welcome to join other area
Christians in this Corporal Work of Mercy for a part of
or for all of their Monday Hunger Program. Tell them
you're from next door - St. Mary Church.

PROGRAM
Volunteers are needed to serve bagged lunches
Monday-Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 am. Contact
Helen Bailey through the parish office at 330-2535161. There is also a need for socks, gloves and
hats; donations are greatly appreciated and can be
dropped off at the parish office. Thank you.
PETER MAURIN CENTER OF AKRON - with
the generosity of Open M. will hold a Seasonal event at
their facility: 941 Princeton St., Saturday, December
19th 1:00-4:00pm, with dinner beginning at 2:15pm.
Featuring a certified Santa, Choir, Games, Face Painting,
Balloons, Crafts, and Christmas Caroling. Call Ken at

THE HOLY DOOR - Bishop Lennon will begin the
Holy Year of Mercy for our Diocese on December 13
at 10:15am at the Cathedral. He will open the Holy
Door prior to Sunday Mass.

MUSIC AND ART MEET SCRIPTURE:
St.
SebastianChoir and the Singer Companye will join
forces with a chamber orchestra to perform the
Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday,
Dec. 20th at 7:30 pm in the parish church.
NIGHT IN BETHLEHEM– come and experience a
night like no other! This promises to be a fun,
memorable 30 minute event for the whole family!

A NOEL CELEBRATION – Sounds and Stories
to those who helped us
win the recycling competition this year. It is
true that St. Mary School will be awarded
$500, however the BIG WINNER is our planet.
Over two tons of paper and cardboard will be
reused to prevent the demolish of more trees,
especially in the rain forests of the world.

ST. MARY GIVING TREES - Our thanks to the
Art Students at St. Mary School who
helped create the tree ornaments.
Please take one from a tree,
purchase the gift, wrap it and return
it to the church with the ornament
attached. The trees are dedicated
to the residents of The Catholic
Worker, and, the residents of a local
residential home for the elderly. Please have your
gift back by Sunday, December 20th.
ADVENT CONFESSIONS - This Season of Advent
is, like Lent, a time of repentance in preparation for the
Lord's Coming. Priests will be available in the following
churches - Wednesday, December 16 from 5:008:00pm - St. Bernard, St. Sebastian, and St. Vincent de
Paul. For your convenience, please check your local
church for their Confession schedule.
