Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor Position

The Department of Surgery at the American University of Beirut is seeking to employ a faculty
member at the Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor level, with expertise in surgical
outcomes research to lead and conduct surgical research activities. The candidate must have a
doctoral degree with a strong background in academic activities, including teaching and
demonstrable success in the conduct of clinical research. He/She must have displayed interest
in pursuing a career in academic medicine, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Experience in statistical methodologies and analysis, modeling, and health services research are
required. The appointed member will also join the faculty group at the Clinical Research
Institute at the Faculty of Medicine and significantly contribute to its educational, training and
support programs.
Key responsibilities include designing, conducting and leading investigations in surgical
outcomes research, which includes writing grants proposals, writing and reviewing protocol
analysis plans, analyzing data and developing manuscripts. Responsibilities also include
monitoring progress on existing projects, providing direction/leadership to junior faculty,
statistical assistance for publications, and participating in didactic and hands-on training of
surgical faculty and residents in outcomes research for the conduct of clinical trials.
