The Communicator Volume 25, Issue 3 From the Principal’s Pen Aurora High School Mr. Mike Roberto Principal Mr. Brian Brookhart Asst. Principal Administration Mr. Russ Bennett Superintendent Mr. Pat Ciccantelli Academic Director Board of Education Mr. Gerald Kohanski President Mrs. Pam Mehallis Vice-President Mr. John Sloe Board Member Aurora High School students continue to hit the excellence mark as demonstrated by the recent state announcement of the high school’s Performance Index (PI) Score which is partially based on the Ohio Graduation Tests. Aurora High earned a PI Score of 112.1 which ranks us as the 6th highest high school in the state. This score also puts us as the 3rd highest rated high school in Northeast Ohio right behind Solon (1st at 113.1) and Hudson High (5th at 112.2) yet the amount spent per pupil by Aurora is much less at $10,947 per student versus Solon ($13,387) and Hudson ($13,671). Academics are not the only area in which Aurora High students are excelling at the state level. The AHS golf team recently placed 8th in the state after taking on the challenging Ohio State Scarlett course for two days. Senior Andy Hinton finished 7th in the state which earned him second team all-state honors. The AHS football team begins its run toward a state title by hosting New Philadelphia in the first round of the state playoffs. This is the 8th straight appearance in the state playoffs for the football team which is longest streak for any high school currently in the playoffs. The boys and girls soccer team have also hit the high water mark for each program this year. The girls’ soccer program advanced to the district finals this year which is the farthest they have advanced before. The boys’ soccer program has earned a third straight district title this year and has advanced to the regional final for the first time. The AHS soccer team is scheduled to play Lakewood St. Edward on Saturday November 3rd for the right to qualify for the state semi-finals. As you can see it has been a busy and successful first quarter for the students at Aurora High. Certainly none of this would be possible without the support that the students and the school receive from the community. As the Aurora City School’s School Board President Gerry Kohanski recently said, “The Aurora Community has a great tradition of supporting the education of our children throughout the years.” We, at Aurora High, are grateful for your support and urge you to continue to help our students reach their goals by making your way to the polls on November 6th to support the Aurora City Schools. Sincerely, Mrs. Annie Grohe Board Member Mrs. Beverly Kuch Board Member November 2012 Michael J. Aurora High School Players Present The Curious Savage Come see the Aurora High School Players on November 16 and 17 at 7:00 as they produce the heartwarming comedy, "The Curious Savage". The play centers around the Savage family fortune and the lengths the Savage children will go to secure their inheritance. In order to collect their share of the money, the Savage children put their mother in a home called the Cloisters because of the crazy way she behaves. While in the Cloisters, Mrs. Savage meets a collection of characters who each have their own way of thinking about life. These characters endure themselves to Mrs. Savage and they end up seeming more sane than Mrs. Savage's own children. Come find out where Mrs. Savage hid the family fortune. Tickets are $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for senior citizens, and $5.00 for students and are available at the door. The cast includes Santino Palma, Lauren Bowen, Robert Pigza, Nick Hradisky, Clare Rahill, Grace Klinger, Laura Giesler, Kyle Messner, Heather Gosnell, Alex DePompei, and Lexi Clossin as Mrs. Savage.
