Volunteers receive direct “on-the-job” training and insight into Lighthouse services. As a volunteer, Lighthouse offers many opportunities. Depending on your interests and expertise, you could have the opportunity to interact with our clients, assist our staff with clerical support, hand out gifts and food for the holidays, pick up donations, assist with our fundraising and annual events and so much more. In the end, we would like to match your interests and abilities with our needs to ensure you obtain the most fulfilling experience possible. To get started, we need you to: 1. Complete a Volunteer application. 2. Be fingerprinted and pass a background screening. 3. Make an appointment for a Volunteer Orientation. 4. Our Services Volunteer Opportunities Seasonal Program Assistant Seasonal Program Assistant will work individually or as a team with staff to assist with Lighthouse's seasonal programs, including diaper bank, mattress program, back to school, and other holiday specific programs. Duties of the position include: Organize and screen client applications for programs; Assist with distribution of program service items, including mattresses, diapers, and school supplies; Answer client questions regarding specific program services; Keep program service items and their storage areas clean and organized. Event Team Member Event Team Members will work individually or as a team to assist with all Lighthouse events, including the Celebrity Waiter Luncheon, Celebrity Roast and other fundraisers and community gatherings. The Events Team may assist with planning of events in a variety of ways, including sending emails and making calls to vendors and participants, scheduling, and creating or distributing flyers. The Events Team is crucial for assistance with execution of events on the day of, including set-up and tear-down, directing attendees and volunteers, and handling programs and name tags. Data Entry Clerk The Data Entry Clerk performs a variety of clerical duties in support of Data Measurement across multiple departments and programs and serves as an integral part of the Administration Department in order to meet grant outcome reporting goals. Essential duties include transferring data from hard copy intakes, surveys, and questionnaires to Excel spreadsheets. Duties of the position include performing day-to-day administrative functions and general office duties including, but not limited to, word processing, email, scanning and data entry. Reception Assistant Reception Assistant works individually and with Receptionist to complete and file paperwork, greet clients, deliver mail, answer phones, make copies and lend support to various departments when necessary. Child Care Lighthouse conducts educational support groups, parenting classes, family workshops, training, etc., year round. To allow all of our clients the opportunity to participate, we provide child care. Child Care duties would include supervising children ages 0-5 and 5+ during set session times, playing games and leading activities. In-Kind Donation Manager The In-Kind Donation Manager will work individually or as a team with staff to organize Lighthouse's in-kind donations. Activities may include assisting with storage, organization, labeling and categorizing of items in the Family Resource Center and storage areas, and assisting with intake of donated items and making records of said items. Organization & Cleaning Team Member Organization & Cleaning Team Members work individually or as a team to keep Lighthouse offices and storage spaces organized and clean in support of multiple departments and programs. Duties of the position may include: Keeping all office areas and client spaces tidy in Reception, Family Resource Center, Counseling, and Administration Departments; Organize, clean and maintain the Counseling Department's storage closet by categorizing, labeling, and boxing contents (games and other counseling tools); Organize, clean and maintain Reception area storage closet of office supplies; Organize, clean and maintain Lighthouse's general storage unit. Outreach Support Outreach volunteers will assist in attending Lighthouse and partner sponsored events with the intent to provide information about Lighthouse Services, increase community wellness and collaborate with fundraising efforts. Volunteers will attend events, provide information to attendees and answer questions about Lighthouse services, set up and tear down Lighthouse's tent and table at events, organize Lighthouse's flyers and handouts on table, and assist with set up and oversight of other event activities as needed. Records & Archives Manager This position is great for those who love to be crafty, enjoy scrapbooking and have an eye for detail. The Record and Archives Manager will organize and create books and albums of Lighthouse's photos, news stories, awards and other important media and records. Activities will scrapbooking, collecting and organizing news stories online or in the paper featuring Lighthouse, and displaying awards. Diaper Bank Diaper Bank volunteers will help the Family Resource Center by coordinating diaper drives in their communities, through neighbors and local businesses. A Diaper Bank volunteer may distribute flyers, call businesses, place diaper bins throughout the area, and collect diapers from donors. Employment Readiness Assistant Employment Readiness volunteers will have professional work experience and be able to help clients with interviewing, creating resumes, coordinating workshops, and other means of helping clients achieve greater employment skills. Fieldwork Team “Fieldwork Days” are a chance for you to get your hands dirty and have fun in the process. On several occasions throughout the year, we assemble fieldwork volunteers to help collect donations at various locations, build and install shelving units, paint, help clients move and a variety of other responsibilities.
