The course includes logic, sets, counting, permutations, combinations, basic probability, descriptive statistics, and their applications. Students are required to have a scientific calculator. You will also need a scientific calculator. Class Attendance Policy: Attendance will be collected daily through in-class or online assignments. If you miss more than 4 assignments, your grade is F. A F* grade will be used when a student does not officially withdraw, but fails to attend class, complete assignments, or participate in class activities. It is used when, in the opinion of the instructor, completed activities or assignments are insufficient to make normal evaluation of academic progress. Each problem has an unlimited number of attempts to ensure maximum understanding of the topics. Quizzes: Each section will have an online quiz associated with it. Each section quiz is comprised of select problems from that section’s homework. You are allowed 10 attempts per quiz to ensure the best possible score. There may be additional in-class quizzes. Exams: There will be 4 exams (Chp. 6, Chp. 7, Chp. 8, and Chp. 9). All tests will be given in ILB 405 on MyLabsPlus. Each test will also have a Practice Test available the week before. You are allowed one 3 x 5 notecard on each exam. Test 1 – Chapter 6 – Saturday, February 6th, 2016 Test 2 – Chapter 7 – Saturday, March 5th, 2016 Test 3 – Chapter 8 – Saturday, April 9th, 2016 Test 4 – Chapter 9 – Saturday, April 30th, 2016 Final Exam: The take-home final exam will cover Chapter 6 – 9 and will be due on Thursday, May 5th at noon. Make-Up Policy/Penalty: Homework: Any homework submitted after the due date will incur a 25% penalty per problem late up until the associated test. No homework will be accepted after the test associated with it has occurred. Quizzes: Online or in-class quizzes are allowed to be made-up if student provides an approved excuse (doctor’s note, family emergency, university function, etc.) Tests: If you miss a test, you will be required to make-up the test on Friday, April 29th at X:XX in ILB 245 or ILB 405. If you miss two tests your grade is F for the course. Grading Scale: There is a 10-point grading scale. A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89 C = 70 – 79 D = 60 – 69 Final Grade Calculation: You final grade is calculated as follows: Homework: 7.5% Quizzes: 7.5% Tests: 20% (x4) F = 0 – 59 Final Exam: 5% Total: 100% Tutoring: Tutoring is available in ILB 235 free of charge. The schedule is posted outside the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (ILB 325). JagAlert: JagAlert is a program intended to help students be successful in all 100-200 level courses. The purpose of the program is to provide early feedback to students having academic difficulties. If you are not doing well in MA110, you will receive an email around week 8 instructing you to see your professor. The e-mail will include instructions to access an online tutorial intended to help with common problems affecting academic performance. Changes in Course Requirements: Not all classes progress at the same rate thus course requirements might have to be modified as circumstances dictate. You will be given written notice if the course requirements need to be changed.
