ELECTIONS FOR THE 2015-2016 EXECUTIVE BOARD OF STUDENT COUNCIL
Elections will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 online.
**Executive Board positions are open to the Classes of 2016 & 2017.**
Instructions for Getting your Name on the Ballot
The Petition:
1. Read and be sure you understand the duties of the office for which you are running. See back of this page
for job descriptions. Contact the sponsors if you have questions.
2. Sign the contract that you will fulfill these obligations (on back of petition). Have the petition signed by
your parent or guardian. Ask your counselor to sign the petition and give your GPA (must be a cumulative
minimum of 3.0). Only students in good standing academically and behaviorally at Hinsdale Central are
eligible to run for office.
3. Fifty students from ANY class must sign the petition. Teams running for Social Chairmen are required to
have the signatures of 100 of the students in the school. Social Chairmen must staple their petitions &
resumes together and hand them in at the same time.
4. Have one of the Student Council Sponsors, Mrs. Bronke (Deans Office) or Mrs. Phillip (Rm. 233) sign your
petition. You MUST speak with one of the sponsors, don’t leave it on their desk to sign.
5. If you are running for Social Chair, you must attend a mandatory meeting on Tuesday, March 17 at
7:30am in room 234 with Mrs. Phillip and Mrs. Bronke. Failure to attend the meeting will result in
your name not being included on the election ballot.
The Resume:
1. Complete the Executive Board Resume and hand it in with your petition. The questions are below. This will
be displayed for voters to read, so be accurate, serious, and neat. Please type!

Please answer the following questions:
i. Have you previously been a Student Council Senator? If so, which years?
ii. List previous leadership experiences both in and out of school.
iii. What activities do you participate in a Central? Will you be continuing these next year?
iv. What are the goals you want to accomplish for the Senate/school during your term?
v. Why do you feel you are qualified for this office? What are your major strengths?
vi. What other information about you do you want voters to know?
2. If you would like, you may attach a picture that will be displayed with the resume.
Submitting the Above Items
Return the completed items to Mrs. Bronke in the Deans Office by Monday, March 16 at 3:10pm. Names on the
ballot will appear in the order in which they are received to Mrs. Bronke.

Voting Instructions
Voting will be done via the Votenet website. Voting will open at 7:00am on Wednesday, March 25 and close at
5:00am on Thursday, March 26. Voting can be done from any smart phone, home or school computer. Instructions
will be sent to all Hinsdale Central students via their school email account prior to voting opening.
Campaigning

All campaigning (in and out of school) should reflect the pillars of Character Counts!. Candidates are
responsible for anything associated with their name. Not meeting the expectations set forth in this packet
may result in the candidate’s name being removed from the ballot or forfeiture of the office.

Campaigning may take place on social media with the understanding that candidates are responsible for
any material that appears with their name and that they can be penalized for inappropriate materials.

Campaign materials for school may be distributed beginning Tuesday, March 17.

All posters must be stamped by Mrs. Phillip/Mrs. Bronke in Room 233 on Tuesday, March 17 starting at
7:15AM. Candidates can check the ballot at that time for accuracy.
Candidates are limited to:
14 Flyers per candidate (8½ x 11” or smaller)
5 Posters per candidate
1 Banner per candidate -- *Banners maybe stapled to the cork strip by pool doors ONLY
Bring in all posters, banners, and flyers to be stamped at one time.

Use only masking tape or scotch tape to hang posters. Bring your own! Posters should not be hung in the
main entrance area of the school or on any glass surfaces. No campaign material with an adhesive backing
(ex. labels) is allowed.

You must remove all posters and campaign material from school by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24.

No candidate may be excused from class to campaign.
Duties of ALL Executive Board of Officers:
Record and submit daily announcements, attend all school functions (dances, games, assemblies, productions,
Student Council events – can include weeknights and weekends), participate in dress days, work lunch periods
when needed, participate in the Activities Fair (day before school starts), participate in freshmen orientation,
attend two meetings per week, and other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties of Officers (briefly outlined):
PRESIDENT: Runs all meetings and creates agendas for Executive Board and Student Council, assigns and assists
with the workload to be divided and makes certain that all projects run smoothly, speaks at assemblies throughout
the year - represents Student Council to the Administration & School Board.
VICE-PRESIDENT: Creates and maintains agendas for Executive Board and Senate meetings. Assists the President
in the running of meetings. Responsible for organizing the Homecoming Parade.
SECRETARY: Takes minutes, attendance, and handles all correspondence that the Council may need (via email
and/or text).
PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER: Organizes various advertising media for Student Council events. Communicates
with Senators and Sponsors to advertise efficiently within the school.
SOCIAL CHAIRMEN: (Usually two people, may be an individual). Plans and leads pep rallies, assists with school
spirit activities, organize and plan lunchtime activities, and may be involved in the Variety Show. Candidates may
tryout to MC the Variety Show if interested.
EXECUTIVE BOARD meets on Mondays at 7:30 a.m.
SENATE MEETINGS are held on Wednesdays at 7:25 a.m.
Student Council Executive Board Contract
If I am elected by my classmates as a Student Council officer, I am agreeing to the commitment of working
together with the other officers and Senators of Student Council. Please initial each statement below.
