Selection Credit 20-285 credits Intended learning outcomes On completion of the course, the student should: Demonstrate advanced theoretical knowledge in topographic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and cardiology Assess, organise and initiate treatment of a seriously ill/injured individual Demonstrate a professional attitude in teamwork Perform and organise the treatment of a person with cardiac arrest according to CPR Council guidelines for CPR Be able to describe quantitative research methods for data collection and analysis Be able to describe the specialist nurse intervention in a disaster situation Be able to describe and apply hospital hygienic principles within emergency care The student should on completion of the course have acquired and be able to account for theoretical knowledge in topographic anatomy, physiology, acute medical and surgical diseases, trauma and its causes and treatment, in order to be able to analyse, reflect and, in collaboration with medical expertise, diagnose and carry out care and treatment. Furthermore, the student should be able to give pharmacological treatment according to scientifically proven method. This knowledge constitutes a basis for coming nursing and placement courses and is a precondition for giving secure and safe nursing. Course content Topographic anatomy Traumatology Physiology Cardiology Infection control in emergency care Pharmacology with pharmaceutical calculation Acute infectious conditions Scientific methodology CPR Emergency medicine Course delivery Teaching and learning take place through individual literature studies, lectures and seminars. Within different working methods active knowledge acquisition, group discussions and reflection are stimulated. As support for the individual studies the students are offered lectures via distance-bridging technology. The studies are carried out by means of detailed objectives and instructions in the study guide of the course. Examination The course is examined with written individual examination and seminar or take-home examination. Alternative examination formats may be used. Additional information This course is given for second-cycle studies. Study supervision is provided in the course room in Fronter.
