1. 4 In-Class Assignments (ICA)
At the end of each unit, the students have to do language presentations. Activities in each unit
are taught in order to build on language skill which enables the students to prepare for 4 In Class
Assignments as listed below:
Unit 1 ICA 1 OUR IMPRESSIVE TOWN. In group of 3-4, students have to use paragraph writing
technique to form their speech about any town in the world that impresses them. Then base on
their prepared script they have to talk it live to the class. Graphic and design can be exempted
no mark for this. The presentation time is 5-7 minutes

Unit 2 ICA 2: SCRIPTED DEBATE On “Prepare to Write” p.29, the students will be assigned to
work on a topics listed in the table. Two groups (each with 3-4 members) will be sharing the
same topic. Take for example, on the topic of “it is okay to tell lie” the first group under this
topic should find as many reasons as possible to support this topics and another group has to
find reasons to rebut against their counterpart. Then both groups share list of ideas they have so
they can prepare how to rebut in advance. This task is 10 points based on the criteria below.
Time for each pair of the debate groups is 10-15 minutes.

Unit 3 ICA 3: KKU NEWS REPORTS This is a pair work. Throughout this chapter, the students
are exposed to quite a number of news. This ICA3 encourages the students to gather some
information about events, updates or things that they spot happening in KKU then try to
rearrange the obtained data in a form of news report. A pair of students will be casting on the
role of a news broadcaster and talk to their friends about prepared data. Criteria is based on
that of the ICA1.
Unit 4 ICA 4: Role-play or Skit. This chapter themed around “Magic and Mystery”, therefore,
the students have to write their plot and do a role-play or skit in front of the class. Everyone in
the team must have a role to play and a script to talk. Students work in group of 5.

2. 2 Tests: At the end of every two chapters, a test will be administered. Both tests are rounded up
to 30 % or the class score. Tentative contents of each test are listed below.
Test1 15% 50 Items (based on contents in units 1-2)
Part1: Vocabulary 20 items/10 points (10 words from unit 1, and 10 words from unit 2)
Part 2: Grammar = 10 points/20 items (auxiliary verbs in present tense = 10
items.//continuous, past or perfect in narrative tense= 10 items//).
Part 3: Reading = 10 points/ 10 items (1 seen passage from unit 1or 2 = 5 items and, 1 unseen
passage from untaught topics in units 1 or 2 = 5 items
Test 2 15% 50 items (based on contents in unites 3-4)
Part1: Vocabulary 20 items/10 points (10 words from unit 3, and 10 words from unit 4)
Part 2: Grammar = 10 points/20 items (present perft. sim, present perft. Cont., past simple

Part 3: Reading = 10 points/ 10 items (1 seen passage from unit 3 or 4 = 5 items and, 1 unseen
passage from untaught topics in units 3 or 4 = 5 items
3. Independent Learning(15%) The student will have to finish a one selective reading (Canterbury Tales)
on their own. The book is a compilation of 7 short stories but only 4 stories, including: The Knight’s
Tale, The Clerk Tale, the Pardoner’s Tale and The Wife of Bath’s Tale, will be tested. Below are what
the students have to do.

Independent reading of the 4 short stories
Writing a one A-4 size summary of the story (5%) They can pick any one of the four stories
and write a summary about it. Anyone who submits this is subjected to have 5 points. Any
two identical summaries (copied) must be failed.
Completing the test about the story (10 %). The contents of the 4 stories will be tested via
60 of the multiple choice questions. Please get your copies at the KKU LI Fulltime Lecturers
room.
