Volunteer Position Description – Website Coordinator

Location: The role can mostly be done at home via email; internet and phone,
with some attendance at local meetings & site visits in XX area.
Commitment Expected: The expectation is to keep the XXXX Website up to date and functioning
effectively with interesting material representative of XXXX and the local catchment and community.
Average 10hrs /week. Attendance at General meetings is expected, and attendance at the monthly
committee meeting is welcome (but not essential).

Position Description:
The Website Coordinator coordinates and maintains the XXXX website - the group’s key mode of
communication and promotion with the broader community. This includes gathering, collating, and
uploading material to the website relevant to the group’s activities and interests. The Website
Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the technical performance of the website.
Purpose of the position:
The Website Coordinator plays an instrumental role in promoting the activities of XXXX and its
broader networks in the community via the group’s comprehensive and informative website. The
website is the major repository of reports, photographs and articles about XXXX.
Principle duties & responsibilities:







Operate, maintain and improve the websites technical functioning, including administrative
control of the internet domain name; server set up; email alias connections; website
performance; security; and site design;
Liaise with the XXXX Committee; community members, project leaders, bushcare leaders
and local community organisations to source articles and content (including photographs
and flyers) about relevant events and programs in XX catchment
Ensure all material on the website is in keeping with the legal, policy and privacy statement
as set out on the website
Liaise with the XXXX Committee to ensure that material on the website is consistent with
other communications (eg. newsletters and flyers).
As time and opportunity permits write articles and attend XXXX events to gather
photographic material for the website;

Suitable experience, skills and attributes:


A comprehensive working knowledge of the technical aspects of website management (including
the use of web codes) gained through either formal training or work experience;
Experience in the use of a range of computer software programs for document management,
graphics and websites, for example Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop;

Access to and ability to use technical reference books;
Access to a camera and at least basic graphic software, e.g. Picasa or Photoshop;
Graphic design skills;
Sound written and verbal communication skills;
Well Organised and an eye for detail;
Autonomous;
An interest in the natural environment and community conservation efforts.

You will be exposed to an array of conservation activities and projects and, if interested, you can
take the opportunity to meet and interview a variety of local community members involved in
catchment care activities.
Catchment Group’s aims & objectives:
 To preserve native fauna and flora in the XX catchment and related environments

To educate all possible sections of the community, in an understanding of the principles and
practices of conservation and preservation of the natural environment in the XX catchment
and related environments;

To discourage the destruction, exploitation and unnecessary development of any part of the
natural environment in the XX catchment and related environments;

To encourage rational and appropriate land use and proper planning of future development
and use of the natural environment and management thereof in the XX catchment and
related environments;

To coordinate community activities & projects including the rehabilitation and restoration of
habitat and waterways;

To assist with networking among the general community and other community groups
within the XX Catchment as well as work alongside organisations including Brisbane City
Council to maintain and ensure the sustainability and liveability of XX Catchment;

To promote and maintain a communication network consistent with achieving provisions the
objectives listed above in the XX catchment and related environments
