2015 APPLICATION
PURPOSE
The Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Fund, a component fund of the Kenosha Community Foundation, is offering a scholarship opportunity to all eligible Kenosha Unified School District High Schools,
Shoreland Lutheran and St. Joseph Catholic Academy High School seniors pursuing their education at a two-year or four-year institution. The goal of the Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Youth Scholars Award is to embrace the pursuit of academic excellence and leadership potential by increasing access to educational opportunities for those students who represent the cultural diversity of the Greater Kenosha
Community. We strongly encourage applications from our community’s ethnic minority students and those students seeking a post-secondary education specific to the areas of Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the 2015 Mahone Youth Scholars Award students must:
 attend one of the following high schools: Mary D. Bradford, Tremper, Reuther Central, Indian
Trail Academy, LakeView Technology Academy, Harborside Academy, Shoreland Lutheran, or
St. Joseph High School;
 be eligible for free or reduced meal benefit;

 have a minimum 2.5 GPA on an unweighted scale; have demonstrated leadership through participation in school and community extra-curricular activities;
 provide evidence of acceptance into an accredited college, university, or technical institution at the time of the award. Awards will not be granted to applicants without this notification;
 complete an application available at each school's guidance office, the Kenosha Community
Foundation office, or by visiting www.mahonefund.org;
 return completed application to students’ guidance counselors or the Kenosha Community
Foundation by February 6, 2015;
 expect to attend mandatory information meeting, if selected as a 2015 recipient of the Mahone
Youth Scholars Award, to be held at The Kenosha Community Foundation, on Tuesday, March
24, 2015 from 6:00pm –7:30pm;
 expect to participate in the 2015 Reaching for Rainbows Pursuit of Excellence Gala , April 15,
2015, if selected as a 2015 recipient of the Mahone Youth Scholars Award.
MARY LOU & ARTHUR F. MAHONE CEO YOUTH SCHOLARS AWARD
Each Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone CEO Youth Scholar will be awarded a minimum $1,000 scholarship that can be applied towards tuition, room and board, books, and other fees related to their education. The funds will be disbursed to the student and the institution at which the scholar is enrolled, in two equal payments, one each semester. Each semester, the scholarship recipient must provide documentation of full-time enrollment and may study in any discipline. If the student attends only one semester, the unused funds will revert back to the Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Fund. The scholarship is renewable for up to a total of four (4) consecutive school years, provided the recipient continues to meet the qualifications.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Applications may be obtained from the participating Kenosha Unified High Schools, Shoreland Lutheran and St. Joseph Catholic Academy guidance offices, the Kenosha Community Foundation or at www.mahonefund.org
. Completed applications must be submitted to students’ guidance counselors or the Kenosha Community Foundation office by Friday, February 6, 2015.
