Mary Link Scholarship Award $5,000.00 The Mary Link Scholarship Award for blind or partially sighted post secondary students is administered in conjunction with the Walter & Wayne Gretzky Scholarship Foundation with the assistance of CNIB. This award was established to assist blind and partially sighted students achieve their scholastic pursuits. Mary Link immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine in 1912 and settled in rural Alberta. She and her husband, Alex farmed in the Meadow and Vermilion areas and she later retired to Edmonton. Mary lived a very frugal life and believed in saving her income; investing in property and rental projects. She was a self educated person who never attended school. This award pays tribute to Mary Link by recognizing her wish to help blind, partially sighted and deafblind students achieve academically. Mary passed away at age 101. Nominee Criteria Applicants must be: Blind, partially sighted, deafblind Registered with CNIB Alberta NWT Resident of the Alberta NWT Division for a minimum of one year prior to date of application Admitted or enrolled in a recognized Canadian post secondary education program on a full-time basis, either vocational or academic Scholarship will be awarded based on financial need and scholastic achievement. Award contingent on letter of acceptance and payable to the postsecondary institution. Application, accompanied with a covering letter of 250 – 300 words by the applicant describing the reason for applying.
