Paws for thought
I often promise to change and then something distracts me
such as leaves blowing or another dog or some toy or other.
And keeping to my promise to behave and come when I am
told or don’t chew things is difficult.
And I wonder as I see people go through lent are their
promises difficult and also if they are not finding them
difficult are they doing enough
Love and licks.

Paws for thought
I like going out, especially if its for a long walk where I get time to sniff
and explore and just chill. Sometimes though I get to distracted or tempted
by other dogs, or cats or foxes or just smells and Daddy has to bring me
back to normality. So its good to see Jesus was the same – going of on a
retreat, getting tempted but somehow managing in time to find space to
find strength and be inspired for his mission. As we all start Lent perhaps
we need to ask ourselves how we will find that space.
Love and licks.

Paws for thought
This being education week and education Sunday for some reason my
daddy was on at me again to practice my training and learn not to do
things - like not jumping up on people. I have to say all this is hard, I
suppose all education is, but we have to be aware that we all need to
further our own knowledge and understanding. And that we are blessed in
all the many people who help us, even when we struggle at the homework,
like learning to sit and stay, or know love and forgiveness.

Messgae from Fr Ivan
Sorry no Paws for thought this week as I thought I should put a little of our state of the
parish address in writing. Arnie will be back soon.
As stated last week I am happy with how our parish is going forward in many ways and
our pastoral planning team is working hard to develop our community.
On a financial side our finances are ok but not great (see the summary over the page) and
we expect them to get much worse with having to spend of the order of £25000 just to fix
the roof leaks over the next couple of months alone. We have very little cash set aside to
cover big expenses and there are a number of large expenses on the horizon.
Thus in consultation with the pastoral planning team I am suggesting 3 things to
hopefully get our parish finances in a better state:
1. We will have a second collection each week from now until the end of the year
when there is no other second collections to build up a building fund.
2. I ask that everyone looks at what they give in our regular first collection what is
called our ordinary income and if it has not been increased in some time please consider
increasing it. Presently we average about £1.35 per person per week coming to mass
(including pensioners and children). I know many people already give more than this and
noone should have to be put off coming to mass for financial reasons but if we can
increase our average to £2 per person/week (less than cost of a pint of beer) that should
help greatly. So could everyone please consider what they give £2 per person/week
would mean the Sunday collection figure we publish each week would be about £1500.
3. Please if you attend regularly and are a taxpayer join the Gift aid Scheme. This
scheme was worth £6000+ to the parish last year and more than £7000 the year before.
For some simple paperwork - you only have to fill in one short form and use the
envelopes (or give by direct debit) we can claim back the tax on what you are already
giving, it doesn’t cost anything more.
Thanks again for all your help and support to our parish community here and myself
since I arrived. Please continue to pray for and support the parish and myself. I am
thoroughly enjoying my ministry here.
God Bless.
Fr Ivan

Sorry no Paws for thought this weeka s I thought I should put a little of last weeks state
of the parish address in writing.
God Bless.
Fr Ivan

It seems odd to hear people saying about Jesus - here is a teaching that is
new when now we are looking back at it 2000 years ago. However
newness of teaching is not always a factor of time. For example - I know
how to wait or come when called - but somehow , especially when I am
distracted its hard to remember (something that annoys daddy) but I’ll
keep trying (and probably being trying). I guess it’s the same with this new
teaching of Jesus - it always has to be something new in our hearts,
particularly when we are distracted.

Time seems to be a big thing for you humans, time to do this, to work at
that, to be on time, to take time, to even make time or have not enough
time, I have even heard of some weird construct called ‘Hammer Time’.
Of course sometimes time affects me too - usually when its walk time or
daddy says he is busy and does not have enough time to play. But taking a
break this week made me realise that often we are too tied to notion of
times, too attached to when exactly a little hand on a clock reaches a
particular spot, & not rejoicing enough in the beauty and wonder of God’s
creation around us - especially when daddy is pulling me away from
chasing that wonder. Love and Nibbles

Paws for thought
I like meeting new friends, sometimes I get so excited that they are literally
bowled over to see me. So this weeks story of Jesus meeting his new
friends is something I can relate to - I wonder though if they were bowled
over by Jesus (I’m fairly sure he did not lick them) and also if we bowl
others over with His presence when we meet them as we all carry Him
with us.
Excited barks and licks

In order to update our web-site and
produce an information pack, could I ask a
person from each group within the Parish
either Spiritual or Social to provide updated
information as to what the group does,
times of meetings etc. Alongside this we
will also start to look at the finance of the

needed on the roof which is leaking in quite
a few places. I will give the whole parish a
summary of this and the costs involved
once we finish the parish accounts for 2012
later this month and get in all the quotes for
the roof. At the moment we are estimating it
will cost £25,000 and since this is more
than we presently have in the bank we will
need to look at how we fund this.

Seems as if that stable in Bethlehem was a busy place people coming and
going all the time. I like visitors (especially when they play with me) so I
guess it would be fun to meet these wise men, especially if as pictured the
came on camels (I wonder if the camels would like to runabout with me in
the car park while the humans talk.) But what I always wonder is what
happened to those wise men - did they take the presence of Jesus and his
love back with them as they went home?

Today for some reason daddy did not appreciate me carrying his lectionary
up stairs in my mouth with me to study the readings. The ways of these
humans are odd. Just when I think I have them sussed they confuse me
further. I suppose such confusion and wondering is like what Mary was
feeling at all the attention her child was getting - I have to try pondering
all this in my heart too.
Thanks for all the gifts and confusing thoughts.

Well I am enjoying all the attention this year - I don’t really remember last
Christmas as I was only 3 weeks old, but its nice to see all these people
coming to visit this baby Jesus. I have a couple of questions though:
Who is this child to these people that they make such a fuss of his 2011th
birthday?
And how does that birthday really relate to the man with the white beard,
red suit and lots of brightly wrapped gifts.
Anyway I am enjoying all the gifts thanks.

Welcome to

Paws for thought
I hear a lot in recent week about how Jesus is coming - we should look
busy (a bit hard if you’re a dog). But I realised especially with the readings
and mass to day that should be ‘Jesus is coming - Look happy’ (Something
I am much better at - I do happiness, excitement and hyperactivity very
well.
Today as we wait for the coming of Jesus perhaps we should all use the
80’s hit ‘Don’t worry, be happy’ as our theme song.

Doing what we are asked is not always easy. To be honest I can have real
problems listening to people, not chewing garden ornaments or even
sometimes just coming when called. So seeing Mary today being asked
something really difficult, by God something that could even get her killed
and saying yes and doing it is awe inspiring. I don’t know that I could be
so open and obedient it makes me think that perhaps I should try harder
when asked and relaise what God wants of me this up coming very busy
week.

Welcome to

I am attracted to the idea of separating sheep from goats – I am a
German shepherd dog after all. But I am not sure I could manage it
– too many things would distract me by moving or doing different
things and having neither seen any sheep or goats I wouldn’t know
how to tell them apart. So how then does God tell us apart, what can
he see in me that tells him I’m his. And what thing or activity do I go
off chasing now that takes me away from Him.

Scottish Inter-Faith Week 27 Nov - 4th
Dec. Theme for 2011 “Belief in Dialogue”
This provides an opportunity of contacting
and engaging with those of other faiths in
the community. Its’ purpose is to encourage
good inter-faith relations in Scotland. During
his visit to Britain in 2010 Pope Benedict
XVI met leaders of world religions and
extended the hand of friendship to them. We
follow the Pope’s example and take the
opportunity this week to pray that religious
people may work more closely together for
peace in our world.
