Canadian Expeditionary Forces, as with AIF) on 3rd March 1916 having previously served in 14th Battery C.F.A. He went overseas with 13th Brigade C.F.A. and he received a shrapnel wound to his right hand on 23rd October 1917. He was mentioned in Dispatches, L.G. 31448 8th July 1919 while with 4th Div. In January, 1918, Mr. Shaw retired into private life, and had since lived at Austinmere; one of the most picturesque spots on the South Coast Shaw entered the service of Messrs. Dixson and Sons, tobacco manufacturers, Mr. Hugh Dixson, jun., being his brother-in-law, and he helped largely to build up the business to its present proportions. In 1899 the firm was known as Dixson and Son, Ltd, and later became the Dixson Tobacco Co, Ltd, which occupied the site of the present T and G buildings at the comer of Park and Elisabeth streets. In 1903 it amalgamated with the Cameron Company, of Melbourne, into the present BritishAustralasian Tobacco Co. Pty. Ltd, and in 1904 was created the British Tobacco Co.
