New Accessible Format Service!
As of December 2013, the Accessible Content E-Portal (ACE) project became a new Scholars Portal,
Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) core service available to all Ontario college and university
libraries. (Your institution’s name__________) is pleased to announce our participation in this new
service.
What is ACE?
The ACE service supports the development of an accessible texts repository designed to enhance the
ability of Ontario academic libraries to provide barrier-free access to textual resources for students and
faculty with print disabilities.
How does this service help us?
The main objective of ACE is to make library print collections accessible for all user groups, enhancing
user access to a diverse body of library materials available in multiple accessible formats.
ACE service supports us in demonstrating compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with
Disabilities Act (AODA) Information and Communication Standard #18 which states that “libraries of
educational and training institutions … shall provide, procure or acquire by other means an accessible or
conversion ready format of print, digital or multimedia resources or materials for a person with a
disability, upon request.” O. Reg. 191/11, s. 18 (1).
