TuftScope: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Health, Ethics, and Policy

ARTICLE I: ORGANIZATION

SECTION A: NAME

This organization shall be called TuftScope: The Interdisciplinary

Journal of Health, Ethics, and Policy– hereafter referred to as

TuftScope Journal or TuftScope.

SECTION B: PURPOSE

The principle objective of TuftScope is to bring together seemingly different viewpoints, citizenship and the health sciences, to transform thoughts and ideas into active citizenship and working policies.

ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP

SECTION A: Editorial Board

ARTICLE III: POSITIONS

SECTION A: EDITORIAL BOARD

Editor-in-Chief: The Editor-in-Chief of TuftScope is responsible for running the organization as a whole and for serving as the face of

TuftScope to the campus community. The Editor-in-Chief shall: a.

Serve as the primary signatory for all TCU funding b.

Oversee participation in relevant events coordinated by the

Office of Student Activities. Register the club through the required form E-mailed by the Student Activities Director.

Send representatives or attend the club training seminar with the Office of Student Activities.

Attend all required treasury meetings and receive all

Recruit and promote the journal through presentations and appearances at the Fall Activities Fair and the Fall Pre-

Health Organization meeting.

Plan the Fall General Interest Meeting and Presentation.

Prepare a sign-up sheet for the meeting and a PowerPoint

Maintain administrative access to the TuftScope website, blog, twitter, email accounts, and Media Advocacy Board computer lab account with the access to the lab granted to the layout staff and other individuals who need access.

Register the organization every semester required with the

Office of Student Activities and every other year with the

TCUJ and bring them a current copy of the TuftScope

Constitution authoring the Letter from the Editor each semester in the journal.

Maintain and respond to the TuftScope email accounts

Senior Financial Officer (SFO): The SFO of TuftScope is responsible for all issues pertaining to the finances of the organization and ensuring that the organization is operating in a fiscally responsible fashion. a.

Serve as the second signatory for all TCU funding accounts. b.

Attend all required Treasury meetings and ensure that they receive all Treasury E-mails.

Work with the Editor in Chief to compose the yearly budget for the organization. d.

Maintain all outside funding and advertising revenues and deposit them to the Treasury account.

Establish a payment structure with the publisher and ensure that all funds are transferred in a timely manner f.

Seek to increase the TuftScope budget for print over the course of the year where possible including through annual increases in the TCU-derived budget.

Coordinate reimbursement of all TUWE expenditures by members.

Communicate with the currently used printing company regarding layout process requirements, as necessary.

Associate Acquisitions Editor: Coordinate the acquisitioning of articles written by people from outside Tufts University. a.

Maintain the NewsBriefs Editor email account

Associate Copy Editor a.

Perform copy editing of all finalized material for the print edition and archived online edition of the journal as made available to him/her by the Editor-in-Chief

Maintain the TuftScope.org domain name and ensure yearly fees are paid

Update and maintain the TuftScope Archives including access to PDF versions of the print edition and text versions of the abstracts and articles.

ARTICLE II: PUBLICATION PROCESS

SECTION A: PEER REVIEW

All articles received from writers not affiliated with TuftScope are

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for sending the final draft of the issue to the publisher for printing

ARTICLE V: CONSTITUTION

SECTION A: CONSTITUTION

The Editorial Board and Staff shall adhere to the constitution at all times and shall review this constitution at least once a year. They shall only amend it if necessary.

SECTION B: AMENDMENTS

ARTICLE V: FACULTY ADVISORS

SECTION A: ROLE OF ADVISORS

The editorial board should use the faculty advisors as a resource

for general support related to questions of production timeline, relevant themes to guide the issue, contacting potential interviewees, reviewing articles selected for publication, expanding the budget, and creating special issues

Adding or removing advisors must be approved unanimously by the editorial board

Advisors should be contacted to raise awareness of the journal among the Tufts University faculty and students in relevant courses.
