Ke`aki Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Technician 5 to work within the Virology on our US Army Medical Institute for Infectious Diseases contract in Fort Detrick, Maryland. DUTIES INCLUDE: Shall have the necessary training and experience to perform general laboratory procedures to include preparation and formulation of media and buffers, cell isolations and culture, RNA isolation, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Western blot, and immunofluorescence as needed to support in vitro and in vivo experimental studies. Shall have the necessary training and experience to perform immunological laboratory procedures to include enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), plaque-reduction neutralization test (PRNT), and flow cytometry as needed to support in vitro and in vivo experimental studies. Shall have the necessary training and experience to perform virological laboratory procedures to include virus growth, virus isolation, and virus quantitation as needed to support in vitro and in vivo experimental studies. Shall be capable of performing laboratory animal procedures to include observation, safe handling, and treatments on multiple animal species including rodents, rabbits, and nonhuman primates as needed to support in vivo experimental studies. Shall be capable of performing applicable laboratory procedures according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations as required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies. Shall be capable of independently performing experimental design and implementation, multiple assays utilizing both standard and advanced techniques, and data recording and analysis while consistently meeting deadlines. Shall be responsible for assessing and maintaining laboratory supplies according to normal branch procedures. May occasionally be required to work a variable work schedule and on weekends as needed to accomplish time-sensitive laboratory tasks. Shall be capable of maintaining a safe workplace and will be aware of and observe appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. The contractor will be required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and will report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer. QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. in biology, microbiology, or immunology + 5 years' experience Work in Biosafety Level 2 and Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-2/3) laboratory containment will be required Enrollment in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) for handling select agents will be required and the contractor must maintain enrollment. The contractor shall serve as a Laboratory Technician within the Virology Division. The contractor will also complete all mandatory Federal, DoD, Army, and USAMRIID training as required for his/her position. CLEARANCE: A favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), or higher if warranted, must be initiated prior to the first day of service, and a minimum of a secret clearance successfully granted for all positions.
