Instructional Consultant Assistantship (half-time, 20 hours/week) The Institute has an opening for a Grade 12 graduate assistant for the Fall 2015 semester. (Continuation in Spring 2016 is likely, assuming successful performance of duties.) The Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence provides support and resources for teaching and learning to TAs and faculty across all Penn State locations. We work collaboratively with individual instructors, groups of instructors, departments, and colleges to develop teaching strategies that enhance student learning. We assist in developing assessment plans to determine the effectiveness of classroom innovations. Qualifications: Required Status as a doctoral student who has completed all coursework One or more semesters of autonomous teaching experience at the college level, from any discipline Interest in helping faculty and graduate students learn more about teaching Beneficial, but not required Knowledge of learning theory, design, assessment, and/or educational evaluation Teaching experience with a variety of course formats (lecture, lab, seminar, recitation, online, etc.) Experience as a peer teaching mentor or similar leadership role Responsibilities: 1. Facilitate and assess existing teaching workshops and short courses such as the Penn State Course in College Teaching 2. Help develop new programs and workshops for a diverse clientele, particularly graduate student instructors and teaching assistants, including international teaching assistants 3. Review instructional materials and provide feedback to instructors/TAs about teaching methods and assessment strategies 4. Consult with instructors and TAs on course planning, delivery, and evaluation 5. Keep up to date on the latest research on teaching and learning 6.
