SXC Series U12 Races Round 1 – Cathkin Braes, Glasgow Sunday 22nd March 2015 VOLUNTEER EVENT INFORMATION Introduction This is the first round of a 6 round national cross-country MTB series aimed at children and young people. The eagerly anticipated series is aimed at developing mountain bike racing for young people. As you can imagine organising such an event requires an immense amount of hard work. Without the help of volunteers it would not be possible to deliver the event. In order to manage the event in the safest possible way we will need you to take on one of specific roles which are detailed below. Other than for first aiders, experience/qualifications are not mandatory as briefing will be given on the day. This document outlines all the specific roles and overall event information. We would like to thank you for volunteering to assist delivering the SXC Series in 2014. Venue Information Parking for volunteers, riders, spectators and officials will be at the parking sites near the venue (see map below). Port-a-loo Toilets are available at the main event village. Sign on / registration will be at the U12 ‘event village’ (look out for a big orange Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) gazebo) which is next to the start area. Roles and Responsibilities – please note all of the roles below will include speaking to the public including spectators and other trail users and advising them of what is taking place, timings and alternative routes. This is vital to have people on our side and avoid any confrontation. Please ENSURE YOU ARRIVE ON SITE BY THE ARRIVAL TIME DETAILED ON THE EVENT SCHEDULE BELOW Sign On - Register Riders and Issue Race Numbers /Event Information Parking Marshall – direct traffic to designated parking areas and ensure vehicles are safely parked Course Marshall - Located at specific locations along route to advise riders of any hazards and ensure riders and spectators are safe. First Aider Marshall – located at start/finish and at specific locations along the route. Must have valid First Aid Certificate (16 hours) Start Help – ensuring riders for each category are ready to start Finish Help – collecting rider number s from riders and directing riders to safe area Uniform – All event workforce will be provided with yellow high-vis vests which must be worn at all times. Please check the weather forecast in advance and come prepared. Wear appropriate footwear, closed toes shoes should be worn at times. There will not be anywhere to store bags so try to bring as little as possible with you to save you carrying it around. Don’t forget you are representing a team and an organisation. Welfare Port-a-loo Toilets are available at the event village. Food & Drink – There may be a catering van onsite (follow SXC-Facebook for more info) however we would advise that you bring snacks, lunch and a bottle of water with you. Communications – The U12 race series organiser Graeme McLean will meet with you on the morning of the event where a briefing will be provided. During the event please notify him any issues, concerns either in person or on his mobile number which is provided below. Please don’t use your mobile during competition unless necessary. You have very important responsibilities and therefore your attention should be on your role at all times. The following are the estimated timings for each race however these may change depending on the conditions on the day (weather, trail conditions, level of riders) We will race with boys & girls together. Under 8’s, 12 minute race (subject to change) Under 10’s, 15 minute race (subject to change) Under 12’s, 20 minute race (subject to change) The idea is to complete as many laps of the course as possible within the allotted time.
