The Design and Technology Department

Resistant Materials at Mossbourne Community Academy is a successful department which is forward thinking in its delivery of both Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Our aims are to provide opportunities for pupils to:

The Technology Technician Role

The successful candidate must be a team player who is passionate about the role practical work plays in Design & Technology education. The Technician will play an important role, providing technical and administrative support to teaching staff and ensuring the safe and proper use of and maintenance of resources and equipment. They will be well organised, flexible and willing to go the extra mile.

Key Accountabilities

The post holder’s key responsibilities are, but not limited to:

Materials

To check and prepare materials for daily use and long term projects.

To prepare project resource packs for teachers and pupils’ design‐based projects, including assisting with copying worksheets as required via Reprographics Team.

To carry out regular stock control.

Equipment

To carry out routine maintenance and repair of classroom and workshop equipment, including machines and hand tools.

To organise and liaise with external agencies to ensure annual maintenance and safety testing is carried out on workshop machinery.

To operate and maintain CAM equipment.

Ordering

To compile orders, liaise with finance, check items on arrival and follow up on errors.

Support

To support teaching staff with the organisation and preparation of displays within the

Technology Learning Area.

To work co‐operatively with other staff to develop and share skills and expertise.

To provide technical advice and help to staff and students for manufacturing aids such as jigs and fixtures.

To provide classroom assistance as appropriate.

Safety

To keep up to date with health and safety requirements and developments in practical Design

& Technology policy.

To ensure that Health and Safety requirements and other relevant regulations are adhered to.

To maintain a clean, safe and efficient working environment.

Other

To practice and promote fair and equal treatment of staff and student throughout the course of employment.

 To comply with any reasonable request from a manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.
