WEEK OF OCTOBER 10-14 Kindergarten - Kitah Gan גן The kindergartners are reviewing the words and the letters we have learned so far. This week we will finish the letter Vet (on Monday), then advance on to the letter Gimel. We will learn to write the letter Gimel and will learn the following vocabulary words starting with gimel: Glida (Ice'Cream), Gamal (camel), Gan (Park/Kindergarten), Gahg (roof) and Gadol (big). This week we will also learn our very first vowel "ah." On friday we will have a fun Garbayim (socks) Day (a letter will be sent home on Thursday). Thank you for those that sent a Kova (hat) with their child for last Friday, we had a great time presenting. First Grade - Kitah Alef ___א כתה Kita Alef's students enjoy learning with the Tal Am Program. We are now learning the letter "Shin" and a new vowel. We learned the vocabulary words: Shachor (black), Shalom (hello/good-bye, peace), Shabat (Saturday) and Shabat Shalom (Have a good weekend). We also were introduced to the first boy and girl from the Tal Am Virtual 1st Grade class. They are Shachar and Sharona. At the end of the letter Shin section we will be having a written test. The students are taking turns reading each and every day. They are doing an excellent job! Towards the end of the week we will learn a special song about Israel. Second Grade - Kitah Bet____ ___ב כתה ____ Kita Bet is advancing in their learning of their cursive Hebrew using the Tal Am program. This week we will complete the letters Resh and Hey in cursive and move on to the cursive letter Bet. This week I've also introduced daily reading to the class. They will need to read one page per day and translate it to you, the parents. This will help with their comprehension as well as with their fluency of reading in the Hebrew language. Please take the time to hear them read each day (it's okay if you do not understand). I asked the students to highlight any words they may not know. Towards the end of the week we will learn a special song about Israel. Homework: 10/10 - Read page 1 in reading booklet and translate to parents. 10/11 - Read page 2 in reading booklet and translate to parents. Write one sentence "I love ....." and draw a picture to go with it. (use attached sheet for sentence and picture). You can use a word you know, or look up a new word in the Hebrew/English dictionary or at milon.co.il online. 10/12 - Read page 3 in reading booklet and translate to parents. Complete attached sheet to draw and translate the sentences on the top from the story we read today in class. 10/13 - Read page 4 in reading booklet and translate to parents. (can be done any time until Monday) Third Grade - Kitah Gimel_ ג כתה Kitah Gimel is moving along. We are learning the vocabulary words Ani (me/I), Who (he), He (she), Atah (you - masculine), At (you - feminine), Gahr (live ), Kotev (write), Koreh (read), Lomet (study/learn). We are also learning to conjugate those words and to answers questions correctly. On Wednesday we will have a test on the above vocabulary words and conjugating. the list of words for the test was sent home with the meaning and the transliteration today along with the homework packet. Towards the end of the week we will learn a special song about Israel. Please note that I send home a copy of any graded work for your convinience. Homework: 10/10 - Answer questions #s 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12 from page 10 in notebook. Put vocabulary words on index card and study for test on Wednesday. 10/11 - Study for test tomorrow - vocabulary words and conjugation. 10/12 - Test! Write 3 sentences in Hebrew using the words from page 12 and conjugating. (Due on Monday). *** I did not get to explain and discuss the homework to the students therefore there is no homework due on Monday. *** The students did very well on their test! I am a proud teacher!!! :) Fourth Grade - Kitah Daled____ ______ ד כתה Kitah Daled is learning new vocabulary words. We begin reading a new story that we will concentrate on for the entire week about a girl that moved to New York from Israel the year before. I asked the students to create flashcards using their new vocabulary. We also will be doing conjugation for boy, girl, many boys and many girls. The students will have a test next week, Wednesday on the vocabulary words and conjugating. Some of the students are working on learning and strengthening their cursive Hebrew and have a packet they need to work on daily. Towards the end of the week we will learn a special song about Israel. Homework: 10/10 - Write 5 sentences using the Hebrew Vocabulary we are learning. Cursive packet daled and hey. 10/11 - Finish classwork if not completed during class. Cursive packet - continue practicing letters. *** we did not finish the classwork I intended on completing today - there is NO HOMEWORK for today!!! 10/12 - Cursive packet (review packet - will be provided). Fifth Grade - Kitah Hay ה כתה Kitah Hey is working on a story full of new vocabulary words. The story is about a girl that moved to New York from Israel a year ago. We are reading the story and translating it. We are learning to conjugate the Hebrew words into girl, boy, boys, girls..., and are writing sentences using the words. We will also be answering questions about the story to check our comprehension. I have asked all the students to write the words on index cards. On Wednesday we will be having a test on the words (some will be multiple choice, others will be from memory), conjugation and they will need to write 2 sentences using the words in Hebrew. Towards the end of the week, we will learn a special song about Israel.Homework: 10/10 - Study for test on Wednesday. 10/11 - Study for test on Wednesday. 10/12 - TEST! Sixth Grade - Kitah Vav ו כיתה Kitah Vav is moving along with learning Hebrew print and cursive letters. They have many vocabulary words that they are able to read . This week we are learning the letters Zayin and Chet. We also are learning a new Hebrew vowel: "oh" as in Yellow. They are doing a wonderful job reading the words and translating words and even words put together into sentences. We have learned so far that Ha infront of a word means "the," B in front of a word means "in/in the" and V infront of a word means "and." Towards the end of the week, we will learn a special song about Israel. Homework: 10/10 - put new vocabulary words on index card. Complete classwork if not done in class. 10/11 - put new vocabulary words on index cards. 10/12 - Translate sentences into English (will be provided).
