Outreach Workshop on Renewable Energy & Wisconsin
April 13, 2011
2:45-6:00pm, Lubar Commons (7200 Law)
University of Wisconsin Law School
Workshop overview
Much attention has been paid to renewable energy in recent years with more and more evidence
surfacing on climate change highlighting that the international community has to move away from
its reliance on fossil fuels. The current high gasoline prices fuelled by unrest in the Middle East have
contributed to the debate. While US federal legislation on the subject may be stalled, no country in
the world would escape the consequences of climate change. While several options are available, the
best long-term alternative is to develop renewable sources of energy, moving away from sources of
energy that contribute to climate change. This workshop looks at what WI has done to meet this
challenge from several perspectives including the current debate on biofuels and food security.

Monday, April 25, 2011
2:45-6:00pm, Lubar Commons (7200 Law)
University of Wisconsin Law School
Program overview
Recent years have witnessed the emergence of global health pandemics such as H1N1 and avian flu
causing considerable panic among the international community as well as various restrictions
imposed on people. Again, similar to climate change, no country or state would be spared if a
global health pandemic breaks out. This workshop looks at how the WHO responds to pandemics,
the experience of a practitioner, healthcare law adopted by the Obama Administration and

2:45-6:00pm
University of Wisconsin Law School
Lubar Commons (7200 Law)
Workshop overview
It is no secret that the global economic structure is changing with several “developing” countries
playing an important role in the global market. UW Law School is working on a project that looks
at these emerging economies – India, Brazil and China – and this workshop will launch this
initiative. It will provide an overview of the project followed by presentations on each country.
While UW-Madison has several country initiatives, this project will look at these emerging
economies in a holistic manner.
