The current high gasoline prices fuelled by unrest in the Middle East have contributed to the debate. While US federal legislation on the subject may be stalled, no country in the world would escape the consequences of climate change. While several options are available, the best long-term alternative is to develop renewable sources of energy, moving away from sources of energy that contribute to climate change. This workshop looks at what WI has done to meet this challenge from several perspectives including the current debate on biofuels and food security. 2:45-3:00 Registration/refreshments 3:00-3:10 Welcome Sumudu Atapattu Associate Director, Global Legal Studies Center 3:10-3:30 Wind Siting Regulation in WI Deborah Erwin Public Service Commission of Wisconsin 3:30-3:55 Legal and policy implications Elizabeth Wheeler Clean Wisconsin, Madison 3:55-4:10 Q&A 4:10-4:20 Break 4:20-4:45 Renewable Energy – Industry Perspective Gregory Bollom MG&E 4:45-5:10 Sustainable Biofuels and Food Security John Greenler Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center 5:10-5:30 Q&A 5:30-6:00 Reception Workshop on Global Health Law and WI Monday, April 25, 2011 2:45-6:00pm, Lubar Commons (7200 Law) University of Wisconsin Law School Program overview Recent years have witnessed the emergence of global health pandemics such as H1N1 and avian flu causing considerable panic among the international community as well as various restrictions imposed on people.
