ST. SYLVESTER/ ST. WILLIAM CATHOLIC CHURCHES MAY 23-24, 2015

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Solemnity of Pentecost:

This weekend we celebrate the solemnity of

Pentecost. The day of Pentecost is noted in the

Christian Church as the day on which the Spirit descended upon the apostles, and on which, under Peter's preaching, so many thousands were converted in Jerusalem (Acts.2). Pentecost is a time for us to celebrate two important realities: the Holy Spirit and the Church.

Pentecost has been a very important feast in the

Catholic Church because it celebrates the official beginning of the Church.

As the Apostles were filled with the gifts of the

Holy Spirit, they boldly proclaimed the Gospel and called all to conversion. Just as the Apostles were transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, so they, in turn, desired to lead all to this new life in Christ. If we open our minds and hearts to the

Holy Spirit, He will renew and transform us as well. Saint Francis de Sales tells us: “Whoever receives the Holy Spirit is wholly transformed in

God.

It is the Spirit upon whom we call for transformation — to transform the gifts of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ, and to transform us who receive those gifts to be the presence of Jesus in the world. Come, Holy

Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love!

Happy Feast of Pentecost

Fr. Peter

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION at St. William will be

ST. SYLVESTER CO-ED CHURCH SOFTBALL

TEAM - St. Sylvester plans to again form a co-ed church softball team to play in Hope 53 Softball League in

Stanford July and August. This is the same league we participated in last year and is for ages 16 plus. If anyone would like to play, they can contact Stephen Schuler at church or phone him at 859-457-0755 .

BAPTISM - Wesley Paul Schuler, son of Stephen and

Grace Schuler, will be baptized into the Catholic faith during Mass on Sunday, June 7 at St. Sylvester. We congratulate the entire family on this joyous occasion.

BOTTLES OF BLESSINGS - You are invited to pick up a baby bottle from Church today, save your spare change, and return the bottle to church by Father's Day. With your help, the Pregnancy Resource Center will be able to continue providing much-needed love and support to those facing unplanned pregnancies in Boyle, Mercer, Garrard, and Lincoln Counties. WEEKEND - A special collection for the work of

Catholic Relief Services in Nepal will be taken up at all

Masses this weekend.

ANNUAL APPEAL - Please prayerfully consider how much you are able to donate to the Annual Appeal this year. If you are financially unable to donate this year, please fill out an envelope and notate that you are unable to do so. This counts as participation for our parish, even if you cannot give this year.

OUR PARISH GOALS ARE:

ST. WILLIAM: 11 families have pledged $740 of

$6805. We lack 6,065 reaching our goal.

ST. SYLVESTER: 12 families have pledged $1,405 of

$5,377. We lack $3,972 reaching our goal.

NEW WINDOWS FOR ST. WILLIAM PARISH

HALL - We are in the process of replacing our parish hall windows (a much needed improvement!). Each window will cost @ $420. The total cost is $5840. If families wish to purchase a window, or even help to pay for part of a window, this would be a great help to our parish. Any amount will be appreciated. So far the parish has received

$1360 in donations toward the windows.
