RULES OF ENTRY FOR 2016 Local, regional, interstate and international artists are invited and encouraged to enter. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL ENTRANTS TO READ ALL INFORMATION AND ACCEPT ALL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THEIR ENTRIES CLOSE OF ENTRIES Saturday, 31st October 2015 The entry form together with the entry fee/s and attachments must be received by midnight on the closing date via the Online Entry Form (to enter, please click link) EXHIBITION DATES Friday, 29th January to Sunday, 7th February 2016 inclusive OFFICIAL OPENING Scheduled for the evening of Friday, 29th January 2016 (7:00pm - 8:30pm) EXHIBITION LOCATIONS • Brighton Surf Life Saving Club • Bindarra Reserve • Various 'Sculpture Walk' locations along the Esplanade at Brighton, South Australia EXHIBITION AWARDS • Outdoor Prize - $6,000 • Outdoor Runner Up - $2,500 • Indoor Prize - $4,000 • Indoor Runner Up - $1,500 • Young Artist 15 - 26 years - $1,500 • Environmental Awareness - $1,500 • Emerging Artist - $1,500 • People’s Choice - Outdoor Sculpture - $1,000 • People’s Choice - Indoor Sculpture - $1,000 ENTRY FEES $40 first entry from Artists 26 + years old Second and third entries from Artists 26 + years old are $30 per entry $30 first entry from Young Artists 15 to 26 years old Second and third entries from Young Artists 15 to 26 years old are $25 per entry METHOD OF PAYMENT ALL entry fees will be paid using the Online Entry Form and payment process. Mastercard and Visa credit cards will be accepted. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY All entries are subject to a pre-selection process which will determine the finalists for the exhibition Entry forms must be completed in full and be free from errors. Incomplete entries will be returned. Late entries will not be accepted. Please note that entries close at midnight on Saturday 31st October, 2015 All sculptures must be the original work of the artist and completed within the last twelve (12) months All works must be for sale Each artist is limited to a maximum of three (3) sculptures with an entry fee paid for each sculpture All entries must include: An Artist Statement of no more than 100 words- which should include a description of the artwork, as well as address Artist’s background, history, previous success, and the method of construction of entry. Environmental Awareness entrants must include a maximum 50 word explanation of the environmental theme and significance of the work in their artist statements. NOTE: It is the Artist’s responsibility to ensure that the Artist Statement is accurate and free of errors, as it will accompany the work on display. It is important to indicate clearly on the online entry form if you are entering the Environmental Awareness, Emerging Artist or Young Artist awards category. Young Artists will be between 15 and 26 years of age at 1/11/2015 Emerging Artists will have practised professionally as sculptors for less than five years A good quality clear photograph of each entry must be submitted with the entry form. Photographs either of the work itself, or a maquette (scale model) must be submitted as a digital image file (.jpeg, or .png). They should not be submitted as images embedded in a text file such as .word or .pdf. A quality 3D sketch may be considered providing it is an accurate depiction of the sculpture to be submitted Please save your image (photograph or sketch) using the title of the sculpture exactly as it appears on the entry form NOTE: It is most important that the photograph is clear, as this and the sculpture description and the artist’s statement are the means by which the pre-judging panel will determine final acceptance into the exhibition. An original entry must not be substituted by another work once the artist has received notification of success as a finalist after selection Artwork installed must be the actual piece that was selected All Artists will be advised of the outcome of the selection process in December 2015 via email, post or telephone No refunds will be given JUDGING All decisions by the Judging Panel will be final and no discussion will be entered into All entries will be judged according to quality as it relates to:- Creativity Innovation Technical expertise Standards of production Environmental Awareness entries will be judged on the criteria listed above as well as the environmental message expressed in the Environmental Box on Entry Form A minimum of 5 entries per category is required before that category can be judged and prizes awarded. OH&S Artists are informed there are Safety and Risk Management Regulations for the City of Holdfast Bay Council All sculptures must be safe and secure in line with these regulations Sculptures are either free-standing and/or are able to be secured safely An OH&S team inspects each piece on the completion of installation If there is a concern regarding installation and display, Artists are asked to contact the Artist Liaison Curator, Colleen Slattery on 0419 820 476. DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION The map provided on the website shows site locations for outdoor sculptures Placement of sculptures will be allocated by a panel of experienced curators Site position for a piece specifically made for the event will be considered but particular sites cannot be guaranteed Responsibility for installation and dismantling is that of the artist subject to OH&S regulations If assistance is needed (e.g. with lifting, assembly or digging), it is the responsibility of the artist to notify the curators well before installation All Artists must report to the Curators Team at the Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club where the 'Tracking' Form must be signed when both installing and collecting artworks Any work which cannot be installed safely may be refused Powered or motorised generators are not to be used on site for installation and/or display All Indoor Sculptures must be placed in their display location on Wednesday 27th January 2016 between 9am and 3pm Indoor Sculptures will be placed either in the club rooms or in the marquee situated behind the club rooms on Bindarra Reserve Please state on the entry form if a plinth is required Indoor Sculptures-hanging-must have D-Hangers and wire attached All Outdoor Sculptures must be delivered and installed on Thursday 28th January 2016 between 8am and 2pm ready for final judging at 4pm Outdoor Sculptures will either be installed on the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club balcony, on adjacent Bindarra Reserve, in garden area immediately in front of the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club, or along the Esplanade Sculptures Walk (see site map) NOTE: Outdoor Sculptures are deemed to be sculptures that are suitable for outdoor, public display, and are able to withstand the elements (eg. wind, rain), noting that it is an open public space. Outdoor Sculptures should be installed within a five hour time period. Once a sculpture is designated for outdoor exhibition, it will be placed outdoors A forklift will be available for installation of works and a disclaimer is required to be signed by the artist prior to use. Please state on the Entry Form if a forklift is required and you will be advised of an available installation time All sculptures may be photographed without fee for future advertising by Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures and the City of Holdfast Bay All entries are exhibited at the artist’s risk. Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures and Brighton Surf Life Saving Club will not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to artworks It is recommended that artists take out their own insurance for the period of the exhibition COLLECTION AND SALES All sculptures (unless sold) must be collected on Monday 8th February 2016 between 8am and 3pm. Proof of identification will be required and the Tracking Form signed Artists whose sculptures have been sold will be notified prior to collection day Removal and delivery of sold sculptures is to be negotiated between the artist, the purchaser, and a member of the Curators Team Payments to artists for works sold will be made by the Brighton Surf Living Saving Club following the event, using the banking details provided on the entry form. Please allow 28 days for administration to be completed A commission of 30% from the sale of each sculpture will be retained by the Brighton Surf Living Saving Club NOTE: The sale price stated on the Entry Form is to remain firm. Negotiations on price may be possible at the end of the exhibition if the sculpture is unsold, BUT this may only be actioned through a BJC Sculptures Committee Member with the Artist.
