The Maynard School Director of Sport The Maynard School is the leading girl’s school in the South West. It is the third oldest girl’s school in the country and is fully committed to a selective, single sex education for young women so that they leave inspired, committed and have clear aspirations for their futures. Access to Hockey astro turf pitches is through the University of Exeter Sports Centre, a short bus ride away. The Physical Education and sports curriculum is varied offering students traditional games of hockey, netball, basketball, tennis and athletics. Additional Activities include using coaches to run the options programme for senior students, activities range from Mountain biking, climbing on Dartmoor, Pilates, fitness, fencing, archery, golf etc. In addition, the department runs a sports leaders programme for Junior and Senior girls. We are fully committed to providing a progressive and challenging outdoor education programme beginning in Year 8 with participation in the Exmoor Challenge, the annual Ten Tors Challenge and The Duke of Edinburgh Award. Over 45 girls have obtained their DoE Gold Award in the last 7 years. We also take senior students on an expedition every two years which includes community based work on the ground and a challenging trek. Recent trips have visited Morocco, The Indian Himalayas, Peru, and Iceland. Summary of Role The Director of Sport will be an inspirational, experienced and dynamic leader with a strong sporting and managerial pedigree. The DoSp will be responsible for all sporting activities across the school including Junior PE. The DoSp will provide leadership, effective management of the department and aim to deliver excellence in all sports. In consultation with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the DoSp will develop and implement the strategic and operational plans for the department with a view to placing The Maynard firmly in the top tier of sporting schools. The DoSp and colleagues will be expected to teach across the whole age range from Junior PE up to and including A level PE The DoSp will also line-manage department members including reviewing the performances of coaches. The DoSp will have overall responsibility for coordinating income-generation activities, including sporting clubs/camps during holiday periods.
