Objectives for all Band Classes at all levels.
National Standards for Music Education, as defined by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME)
1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.
Music Standards and Judging Criteria as set for by the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA):

Band students at all levels are expected to build upon the 5 foundations of quality musical performance during each rehearsal, as
determined by MSBOA.
Differentiated Learning in Band has been taking place for years. These practices take place in each class.
Examples include:
1. Putting weaker players on easier parts
2. Writing in the names of notes or fingerings for students who have trouble reading the music
3. Modeling the music for the students and having them play the music in response
4. Sitting by a player and pointing to each note as the student plays
5. Counting rhythms out loud with the students
6. Having the students read the note names aloud
