For Follow up from 19 April 2013 Friday 19 April 2013 – calls received on air Directorate: EDD Issue: Block 23 Section 36 Banks – doesn’t want this sold, wants it to be gardens, its the only piece of land left for community use. Caller feels Banks has had no money spent on it and the land could be used for better use. OUTCOME: EDD contacted caller on Tuesday 23 April to discuss the site, green space and the consultation that was undertaken. Block 23 Section 36 (Pockett Ave, Banks) was open for community comment for a 3month period from December 2012 through to February 2013 via Time to Talk, print media, Tuggeranong Community Council and a letterbox drop to 980 homes, businesses and PO boxes in Banks. No comments were received. With regard to available green space in Banks, a rather large open space park comprising trees, children’s play equipment and open grassland is located one block up from the site in question, as well as Banks Oval nearby. The site in question separates the Banks Shopping Centre carpark and residential units, and is currently used mainly as excess parking and has become a barren dustbowl. Development on the site is expected to comprise mixed use commercial/residential facilities. The site goes to auction on 9 May 2013. Page 1 of 5 Directorate: JACS Issue: Parking at CISAC, Pool and Gym Belconnen – parking taken up by office workers, maybe time limits could be changed so people attending the Pool and Gym would be able to park. OUTCOME: The Manager, Parking Operations contacted the caller and left a message advising caller that the carpark is privately owned and Parking Operations enforce the parking by request of the owners, The Club Group Pty Limited. Directorate: TAMS Issue: Playground on corner of Pambula and Daintree Crescent KALEEN. Has been in bad repair for a long time - wooden and steel structure. OUTCOME: An officer from TAMS contacted caller regarding the playground on the corner of Pambula and Daintree Crescent, Kaleen and provided an update on the status of the playground. The officer advised that the equipment may not be replaced for at least 2 years. The officer has agreed to contact the caller again with any future updates on the playground. The caller was thankful for the follow up. Directorate: TAMS Issue: Tree needs trimming on his nature strip, branches dropping and breaking tiles. Has been waiting for 3 months. OUTCOME: Officers from TAMS spoke to the caller on Tuesday 23 April 2013 and outlined what action TAMS would undertake in relation to the tree on the callers nature strip. The Belconnen tree team removed a large branch that overhung the callers property on Tuesday 23 April 2013 and removed a split tree from the verge outside the same address on Wednesday 24 April 2013. Directorate: TAMS Issue: Suggested painting curbs RED to stop people parking and using as drop off point. People dropping off school children who are then running across the pedestrian crossing and are also sometimes blocked by trees. OUTCOME: An officer from TAMS contacted caller and explained that red kerbs are not included in the Australian Road Rules and are not enforceable. The location the caller was commenting on is Drumston Street in Isabella Plains, in particular issues about parent/carer and student behaviour at St Marys Catholic Page 2 of 5 College. TAMS will contact the school and provide some advice regarding parking restrictions for them to distribute to parents. TAMS have asked ACT Parking Operations in JACS to visit the location. The caller mentioned the height of sign at Libnitz Place near Isabella Plains Early Childhood School. Roads ACT will investigate and ensure the height of the sign meets the standard. The caller was happy with the response. Directorate: TAMS Issue: Franklin – Grasslands – rabbits have been poisoned, could this be a threat to the wedge tail eagles that have been in the area? OUTCOME: An officer from TAMS contacted the caller to discuss the callers regarding rabbit poisoning and the effect it may have on wedge tail eagles. The area of concern is Mulanggari Grasslands not Franklin Grasslands. Baiting was not used in this area, the control method was warren fumigation which causes no harm (secondary poisoning) to eagles. The eagle’s diet (kangaroo, carrion and rabbits) was explained further. The caller was satisfied with response and had no objection to the need to control rabbits. Directorate: TAMS Issue: Loading Zone parking signs – some don’t have 30min written on them. Inspector told him that he should know its only 3 min. Lonsdale Street BRADDON. OUTCOME: An officer from TAMS contacted caller. The loading zone the caller was referring to is in front of 32 Lonsdale Street Braddon. The loading zone has a 30 minute time limit between 7.30am and 6pm as marked on the sign. The caller was advised that loading zone time limits are as per the signage. Directorate: JACS Issue: Caller has had the same number plate since 1965 and has lived in Canberra all that time. She wants a Centenary number plate but has been told she would have to change to a new number. She is prepared to pay to keep her old number with Centenary on it. OUTCOME: Road User Services (RUS) contacted the caller and advised that a centenary plate can be arranged. Page 3 of 5 SMS/TEXT Directorate: TAMS Issue: 3 hour parking signs that have been put in at Kembla Street Fyshwick have been spray painted black and people continue to park there all day. OUTCOME: An officer from TAMS contacted the caller and discussed the issue of vandalised parking signs in Kembla Street, Fyshwick. Most of the signs were vandalised. The office advised the caller that TAMS will repair the signage. The caller was thankful for the follow up. Directorate: TAMS Issue: Dally Crescent turn into Macrossan Crescent Latham. LHS corner Macrossan has a huge upwards bump (not a calming device) that needs flattening for driver safety. OUTCOME: Officers from TAMS made several attempts to contact caller. The hazard reported by the caller has been made safe and will be permanently fixed by Wednesday 10 May 2013. Directorate: JACS Issue: Parents dropping kids off adjacent to lines. Isn’t this illegal? OUTCOME: JACS has tried to contact caller. No contact has been made. No voice mail option available. Directorate: ESDD Issue: What scope id there to modify the city to the lake plan to allow traffic flow between Parks Way and Commonwealth Avenue? Also can City Hill be tunnelled under? OUTCOME: ESDD contacted caller and discussed possibility of allowing traffic to move from Parkes Way to Commonwealth Avenue, City Centre traffic management in the context of the metropolitan, district and local scale, the potential of the City as a destination rather than encouraging through Page 4 of 5 traffic, the benefits and non-benefits of a tunnel were also discussed. The cost and impact of a tunnel were highlighted including the significant impacts during construction. Regarding City Hill, it was discussed that that the place and planting has historic and aesthetic significance. The directorate discussed that significant planning work was to be undertaken prior to advancing City to the Lake Plans. This included developing the City Plan, its role distinct from the City to the lake plan as a development master plan. The caller indicated he was happy with the response. Page 5 of 5
