EDUCATION:
Associate Degree in technical field such as Electricity or Heating and Air Conditioning required. Must have or be able to obtain AEE
Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Home Energy Rater System (HERS), Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Thermography
certifications within 12 months of accepting position. Ongoing Energy Efficiency training required, which includes obtaining the
designation of an AEE Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professional
(NCQLP) Lighting Certified (LC) designation. Bachelor’s degree in energy related field or Business preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Eight (8) years of progressively responsible related experience in consumer complaint resolution, residential and multi-family energy
auditing, and small commercial/agricultural energy efficiency measure evaluation, practices, and procedures. Experiences in basic
project financial analysis and life cycle cost analysis are a plus. May substitute appropriate experience for formal education.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS;
Must compose correct, clear and concise written communications both technical and non-technical. Must have ability to
communicate orally with individuals and small groups in a clear, effective manner. Effective listening, teaching and mentoring skills
are essential. Must be able to work effectively with individuals and groups within and outside the organization. Must be able to
understand building plans, blueprints, and specifications. Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of
Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to: Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint as required by job responsibilities.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Must have good understanding of electricity, I.E.C.C. (Energy Code), IBC (Building Code), the National Electrical Code (NEC),
energy efficient construction procedures and concepts, (Building Science). A working knowledge of USEPA EnergyStar, Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), and ASHRAE 90.1 and 90.2 Energy Standards, and ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 audit
practices is required. Experience in residential and small commercial/agricultural energy efficiency applications which may include
benchmarking, lighting and lighting controls, refrigeration, heat recovery, insulation applications, motors/controls and, HVAC
systems and building automation systems (BAS) is required including the ability to perform standard energy savings calculations.
Must have basic knowledge of typical residential and C&I electricity rates and tariffs and basic energy budgeting and forecasting is
required. Must be able to trouble-shoot electrical systems and commercial/agricultural processes. Also demonstrate knowledge of:
Renewable Energy Systems (PV, Wind and Thermal), Net Metering and electrical vehicles. Must have specific knowledge of REC’s
Energy Star Program, HERS, BPI software, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Explorer, SharePoint, CC&B, AMI (TWACS OC),
REM Rate software and Manual J8.Knowledge of other utility systems and reduction opportunities such as water, sewer, natural
gas, etc. is desirable.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Must possess the ability to organize, plan, schedule and coordinate activities and projects with little or no supervision. Must be able
to initiate projects and see them through with little outside direction or help. Must be able to effectively utilize online training
opportunities. Must have the ability to effectively consult and educate residential and small commercial co-op members to help
them determine the cause of their high bills or develop strategies to address their energy efficiency issues. Must have the ability to
develop and effectively present regularly scheduled energy efficiency training updates to Cooperative personnel. Must be able to
supervise, mentor and support the professional development of others within the Department ,especially other Energy Management
Advisors Must be able to use various electrical testing instruments associated with energy auditing and diagnostic testing. Must
have the ability to market, promote, and develop REC energy efficiency programs. Must have a valid Virginia Driver's License.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions. Job requires constant exposure to traffic, dust, and insulation. Various
aspects of job require evening, weekends, and holiday work. Attendance at various seminars and conferences several times per
year will be required.
