Time to Share… Class Meeting : 4/15/15 Icebreaker: Two options. Please read them over and select the one that you feel will work best for your class. Icebreaker 1: Would you rather? 1. The BB picks a student to answer a “Would you rather…?” question. 2. Tell all of the students to answer the question in their own minds and choose either option 1 or option 2. 3. The BB asks the student a “Would you rather…?” question and the student answers. 4. Ask the student to guess how many of their classmates answered the same way. Once they have a number, ask all students who answered the same way to raise their hand and see how close the student was to the number they had guessed. 5. You and/or your BB can facilitate more discussion on each question by asking a student or two why they selected that option. 6. Repeat for 5 or 6 questions. Play for about 8-10 minutes. Someone starts by asking a neighbor, "(Name), have you seen Mrs. Mumble?" Players can't show their teeth when asking. The neighbor responds by saying, "No (Name) , I have not seen Mrs. Mumble." again without showing their teeth. The first person then says, "OHHH!" and asks the next person..."(Name), have you seen Mrs. Mumble?" This must go around the circle without any players showing their teeth while speaking. Activity: Sharing Circle Teachers: Divide students into two circles for discussion. BBs divide to each lead a circle. If you only have 1 BB, you may want to divide students and have them lead one and you lead one. Today’s topic: An important person in my life. Today we are going to talk about an important person in your life. Most of us interact with many people every day. Some are friends, some are relatives, and some are strangers. The people who are important to us have usually contributed something special to our lives. For example, they may look after us, guide us or teach us. Frequently they share our joys and sorrows. Tell us about one important person in your life. This person could be a parent, grandparent, teacher, counselor or coach. He or she could also be a friend. Tell us who the person is, what they are like, how and why this person is important to you, and how you feel when you are with him or her. Have students go around and share their important person with the rest of the circle. Then, bring the class together and discuss the following: 1. What characteristics did most of our important people have in common? 2. If your person was no longer available to you, how would you manage to get along? 3. Do you think that there are people that would name you as their Important Person? Who? What would they say about you?
