Subject: Re: Question
Thank you for your efforts Mrs. Wilder.
I have been working on my project since before I was married. My Grandfather, Duncan Alexander
Carmichael, always talked history and family and how important it was to know this information, I was one
of the younger grandchildren and at their home "all the time" so I got history lessons daily. Bob truly
believes he married the county, I know so much information just in my head. I have uncovered information
some relatives, would rather I had not found, and I am honest about it. I have researched to verify my
history that I have. As has another cousin ;Duane McCallum, while he was working on the MacCallum
tree. It ( the Carmichael information) was written by a relative and compiled back in the 1970's and
distributed at one of the Carmichael reunions, to everyone of my Grandfather's generation, I got it from my
Grandfather.
Our reunion is to celebrate the family of the Carmichael's who where from Sarnia and come to Michigan
from Canada, the family of a Duncan and Catherine Campbell Carmichael, of Sarnia. They had 4 children,
two children whom come to the Mecosta county Chippewa/Grant center area. Elizabeth Carmichael was
Mrs. Henry Moore, she was the grandmother of the Boyd's, Kent Boyd was her grandson. that is someone
you would know, and her brother Edwin Duncan Carmichael married Catherine Ann MacCallum. My
Grandfather's parents. I like to say they caused all the Carmichael's in Evart!! It is true. The fact, I know
photo's and other information which was to have been "unknown" really bugs some but it did happen. Most
of it has to do with births! What is most prevalent now is divorce, everyone tried to hide.
The McCallum side has yield us many relatives, due to the fact there were 6 daughters and 1 son, caused
our family to be inter- related and blood kin so many in the McLachlan families, 4 times, during that
generation. So several are double cousins. People can not believe Terry Young and I are cousin's, fact is, his
grandfather and mine were first cousins. His Mom, you know as Barbara Young, was Barbara McCallum the
daughter of Harold ( Red) and Ruth she grew up on the McCallum homestead, which is now sadly being torn
down by Edna Carmichael Johnson's brother in law. I grew up just down the road from that house, and I
know the farm and neighborhood too well, I am so glad to have photo's and at least my children know where
the "place" was and what it looked like in 2009.
Your probably not interested in the local family history. My father was the first Carmichael to graduate from
Evart High School, although my Grandfather Duncan and one of his sisters Margaret graduated from Ferris
Institute, and had Ferris as an instructor. I have records to prove that, other relatives do not have that, so it
tells me they didn't go. Stewart and Cam were great ball players which everyone knows and were ladies
men also, thus a lot of the information people would rather not have found out. It takes a lot of "spice" to
make up a family and the Carmichael's have that, some just don't like to admit it!
Mrs. Beverly Stevens tells me I should join the historical society, I know I should at the vary least get the
family history into a written format on the computer that can be printed. If Duane McCallum ever gives you
( the library) a bound copy of the Mac Callum family history the Edwin and Catherine McCallum Carmichael
family tree is complete within that, it just does not have the family of Elizabeth and Henry Moore, which
includes the Boyd's for example.
I also have the Zeller family history which was my Grandmother Audrey Carmichael's family and I am
currently working on my Mother's family, she was from south of Big Rapids.
Bob's family is a real challenge. Beverly's family is complete but his fathers side is a highly guarded secret.
Although the Catholic church has been rather helpful!

Debbie Carmichael-Zielinski here, daughter of Edwin Burke and Clara and grand daughter of Duncan and

genealogy, which I have had for over 30 years, and I can't figure out for love nor money who you have listed
in Forest Hill Cemetery as Lillie Carmichael .
www.migenweb.net/osceola/FHCalp.html - That name does not show up at all in family records, of course,
several relatives have things ": hidden in the closet " that only a few people know about, but I like to include
them as they were born or it did happen I don't know about this person or not!!. I know of Don Carmichael
( Cam and Edith's oldest son, Dale Carmicahel's older brother, being married and a wife dying while he was
gone to WW2 but she didn't live here, that I know of and of course she is one of those things, hidden in the
closet, not to spoken of ! I phoned Mrs. Pattee at the Town Clerk office and she says there is no record, of
Lillie Carmichael which is shown on the wedsite for Forest Hill.. ???Help! I know you got the information
somewhere!!
thanks!!
