C. Campus Climate Survey

1. September 14 th —an email from President Maisto with the executive summary will come out a. read right away

2. It is critical that, as a senate, we are aware of the survey and know the result details

3. Monday, September 21 st —first forum at 7 p.m. in Sussman which will discuss more than just the executive summary

4. Tuesday, September 22 th —another forum at 3:30 p.m. in Sussman a. Please attend one of the sessions

5. The survey was statistically significant, so the university is able to draw conclusions

6. As a senate, we will meet with the people who create the survey to be productive on some things

D. Weekly Meetings Recap

1. Vice President Blevins Met with Scott Law to discuss loss of some blue light poles a. New poles should be put up soon

2. Query information will be coming out soon

3. Drake Safe ride program has been very successful with 1200 rides so far a. 3 times as many rides as were used by drake direct last year

4. First meeting for the provost search took place today a. The selection process will pick up in mid to late October

1. Who is driving the drake safe bus? a. 2 people who were specifically hired to do this b. Do the drivers have training to handle safety issues? i. General safety training has taken place for them

3. Debate to Vice President Blevins a. Move to add a nondiscriminatory clause on the cover page to read “The principles of equal access and equal opportunity require that all interactions within the University be free from invidious discrimination.

Drake University Student Senate therefore prohibits discrimination based upon race, color, national origin, creed, religion, age, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, genetic information, or veteran status.” and remove section XVIII in its entirety b. Can the student senate take action to prohibit discrimination or just endorse it? i. in our own actions, yes we can prohibit it ii.

3. Placed third in regionals last year and getting this funding will help them improve a. Questions i. How many tournaments are there?

(a) 4 but they only request funding for three ii. Does the Ultimate team have any plans to promote Ultimate to the Drake community?

(a) Not yet but they play throughout Helmick often and anyone is welcome to play

4. Treasurer Matusik

—this motion has occurred in the past and has passed a. Questions i. Is there a breakdown of costs for people who are requesting funding?

(a) This can be printed out ii. What is the approximate cost of each section such as lodging and transportation?

(a) Yes (breakdown was shared) iii. Do we pay for all of their expenses always?

(a) They pay for one of their tournaments out-of-pocket, but the rest has been covered by senate in the past iv. What is the limit on one-time funded again?

(a) $60,000 for the year

(b) Enforcing this limit has not been figured out yet v. How are the costs for gas calculated?

(a) A quarter per mile of travel

(b) This also covers wear-and-tear for the vehicle

(c) Gas receipts are often brought back by organizations

2. Committee Applications a. Due on September 14 th as of now —this may be extended b. Each senator will be given 5 applications to be given out to people who would make a good fit

3. Suggestion Box a. This is next to picture wall in Olmsted but hadn’t been used in the past couple years b. Forms are now available for people to fill out

4. Quote of the Week a. “start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible”

5. Senator of the Week a. Treasurer Matusik for kicking off the year to a great start

1. General Interest Meeting-SAB a. Will take place this Monday so send people their way

2. Taste of Des Moines a. Taking place on Tuesday, the 15 th b. 10 different restaurants c. 3-5 p.m.

3. Fair Recap a. 1,050 students showed up and it went really well

Will send an email to all presidents on drake’s campus with some specifics for some organizations and some introductions

5. Adam’s Academy a. Apply by September 16th

1. Sodexo has now been added to the student services page

2. One Stop Student Services page has asked that Senator White gather questions from students for student senate

B. Senator Donat

1. Talked with Tom Delahunt, VP of admissions a. Discussed why people may or may not come to Drake b. Data was about 5 years old

C. PR Liason Koretz

1. A lot of posts about committees and first year senators are coming a. Share the posts and reach out

2. An event may take place to promote liking the page

3. Working with Senator Creese on community outreach campaign

D. Senator Freemon

1. 4 new organizations are registered on community a. includes spike ball club, Drake E-Sports Club, and hammocking club

2. Combining Student Governance Organization with other organizations in the college

3. Activities fair was really crammed a. One room seemed to be a greek life room which seemed exclusionary

1. A certain exec member is having trouble naming senators during the meetings
