Several of the legislative changes include a requirement that school districts notify students and parents, in writing, of the following: Early Graduation Option (EGO): In order to meet the Standard Diploma through the Early Graduation Option (EGO) eligibility requirements, a student must: Complete the minimum 24 core content area high school credits AND Achieve passing scores on state required assessment(s) (FCAT and/or EOC exams) AND Earn an unweighted, cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. If you believe your student’s academic records, including in-progress and/or scheduled courses, indicates that he/she may be eligible to select the EGO (Early Graduation Option) and you are interested in pursuing the EGO, please contact your school counselor as soon as possible. Diploma Designations/Paths/Options: The most recent legislative session resulted in four different types from which a student must choose: Standard (College and Career); Merit (Industry), Scholar and the ACCEL 18 Credits. The enclosed matrix delineates the requirements and differences between the four. By the end of the first semester in 9th grade, a student and parent must choose the diploma or designation that best meets the student’s needs and goals. When a diploma path is not selected, the student will be expected to earn the 24 credit Standard Diploma in order to graduate from high school. Students are provided opportunities to change their diploma plan at any time during high school. Bright Futures, State University System, and Florida Virtual Campus: Finally, it is of extreme benefit for your student to create an account on www.FLVC.org. Through this account, he/she will be able to access and monitor current status and progress toward meeting Bright Futures Scholarship (BF) requirements, State University System (SUS) entrance requirements, and graduation requirements. For this account, use the student’s social security number followed by an X in lieu of the Florida Student Identifier Number. It is important that your student’s social security number be on file in order to create this account. Your student can see a counselor in Guidance Express during lunch to confirmation prior to creating their account.
