Learning Community Graduate Assistant
The Learning Community Program at Saint Louis University is a highly collaborative program that offers nine residential
Learning Communities for first-year students. The mission of the Learning Communities Program at Saint Louis University
is to create intentional, inclusive communities formed around common academic interests where students live and learn
together. Engaging the Jesuit traditions of intellect and reflection, Learning Communities invite students to integrate their
learning in and out of class. These communities cultivate holistic student growth and enhance learning by fostering
collaborative and enduring connections among students, faculty, and staff. Learn more about Learning Communities at

Primary Responsibilities:
Student Leadership and Advising
 Advise the Learning Community Advisory Board, comprised of two first-year student representatives from each
learning community.
 Develop and implement student leadership training and development for the Learning Community Advisory
Board.
 Provide leadership in student lead, system wide, programmatic efforts to develop a sense of community among
all Learning Community students and demonstrate the values of the institution and learning community program.
 Coordinate individual learning community service sites with the Center for Service and Community Engagement
and Learning Community Peer Mentors.
Study Abroad
 Serve as the primary coordinator for the learning community study abroad experiences for 2015- 2016.
 Partner closely with learning community faculty to develop trip itinerary that represents curricular and experiential
learning.
 Oversee the recruitment and selection process for each study abroad trip.
 Coordinate the learning community study abroad scholarship selection process.
 Serve as a liaison with International Services and Study Abroad Office.
Undergraduate and Graduated Alumni
 Develop an alumni newsletter with current events of the learning communities to release twice a semester.
 Create engagement opportunity for alumni to participate with current learning community students.
 Maintain database of current on-campus alumni (juniors and seniors) as well as graduated alumni.
 Create a Legacy Fund for the learning community program.
 Liaison with Alumni Relations Office and Institutional Giving.
Social Media and News Media
 Develop daily, ongoing, and interactive social media presence for the learning community program on facebook,
twitter, and instagram.
 Develop small articles and vignettes twice a month to submit to Newslink (campus-wide email news).
 Create video with students of each learning community about their engagement experience in the program.
Additional Opportunities Available:
 Experience working with assessment and benchmarking for the Learning Communities.
 Shadow full-time Residence Hall Coordinator for on-call responsibilities in emergency and crisis management for
an on-campus population of 3,900 residents.
 Co-teach one section of the Resident Advisors and Peer Mentor Creating Inclusive Communities fall course.
 Participate in department committee such as student staff selection, student staff training, residential education,
etc.
Requirements:
Preference will be given to post-bachelors graduate students looking to enroll in the Saint Louis University Higher
Education Administration Master’s program. Additional ideal experiences include but are not limited to: residence hall or
learning community experience, study abroad experience, interest in the development of college students, and
demonstrated ability in the following areas- organization of processes and tasks, problem solving, crisis management, and
administration. Candidates must have a passion for working with a diverse student population, be committed to student
learning and development, possess strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, demonstrate initiative, communicate
effectively, have a positive attitude, and an ability to manage structured autonomy.
This is a 10-month position directly supervised by the Learning Community Program Coordinator. The Graduate Assistant
for Learning Communities will work 20 hours per week. The anticipated start date is July 20, 2015. The Graduate
Assistant is strongly encouraged to pursue a summer internship experience at the end of spring 2016 through ACUHO-I,
NODA, etc.
Remuneration:
The Learning Community Graduate Assistant will receive the following compensation:
 Stipend of $800 per month.
 Meal stipend of 125 meal swipes per semester and $480 in Flex Dollars to utilize at on-campus dining facilities.
 Tuition scholarship for 6 credit hours per semester (fall and spring), 3 credit hours in the summer, in a SLU
graduate program.
 University student medical care insurance benefits.
 A furnished, air-conditioned apartment including utilities, extended basic cable, and internet.
 Professional Development dollars available.
 Designated workspace and resources.
