Behavior Specialist The Behavior Specialist will provide interventions designed to support students with disabilities that have significant behaviors which interfere with their ability to succeed in the school setting. The specialist will utilize strategies to help support the student in the regular and special education classroom setting. The specialist will have the knowledge of special education laws and procedures in order to advise administrators and teachers in how to effectively discipline and design interventions that support students with disabilities. Report to: Coordinator of Behavior Support Term of Employment: 10 months Qualifications: Mininum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university Mininum of 5 years of successful EC teaching experience Current NC teaching license in special education Responsibilities: Provide support (outreach) to students identified as SED and students with disabilities exhibiting intense behavioral needs by supporting school level personnel in adaptive the school environment and curriculum as needed for students to demonstrate appropriate behavior, access the general curriculum and show progress on IEP goals and objectives. Assure that procedures are followed regarding discipline and the behavior intervention plan process. Assist in development and follow-up of behavior goals and intervention plans for students with intense behavioral needs. Coordinate with the EC Case Manager in gathering and reviewing data to document behavior interventions, track discipline, and monitor behavior goal progress. Collaborate with EC teachers and, if applicable, behavior coach in providing students with behavioral supports and self-control methods they can use in the school setting to control their own classroom and school behavior. If applicable, provide the behavior coach with schedules for working with high needs students and provide social skills activities/lessons for the coach to facilitate. Assure that students receive FAPE while placed in alternative educational settings. Attend manifestation determination review meetings and/or behavior related IEP meetings
