 Applications must be received by Friday, January 16, 2015 to be considered for admission.

Portfolio Review Day - February 7

th

 BDS will inform you of your scheduled portfolio review time by Friday, January 30, 2015.

 Please plan to arrive promptly at your portfolio review time on Saturday, February 7, 2015.

 You will be expected to complete a portfolio review and presentation during this time.

Portfolio Requirements – 7 pieces total

1.

Sketchbook /Process Journal(s)

 Your sketchbook/process journal(s) should show how you are using it to practice and improve your design ideas and art making skills.

 If you have multiple sketchbook/process journals, bring them all! If you have a school sketchbook, you should bring that in addition to your personal sketchbook.

 Sketchbook/Process Journal(s) should be mostly filled and contain a variety of subject matter including: o planning (sketching ideas and note-taking) o observational drawing o ideas for design o material exploration and experimentation (use of a variety of media) o your personal voice and interests o collected materials that represent what inspires you and helps your creative process.

Still-life/Still-object Drawing from Observation

 9x12 inches or larger in size

 Choice of drawing media

Environment from Observation

 Choose ONE of the following: o Interior space o Exterior space o Landscape o Cityscape

 9x12 inches or larger in size

 Choice of media

Realistically Rendered Self-Portrait

 9x12 inches or larger in size

 Choice of media

 This self-portrait should be done from observation (from a mirror) OR from a reference photo.

IF you use a reference photo, the photo should be taken for the purpose of creating this self-portrait.

The subject should be well lit and the photo should be taken without a flash.

Redesign Assignment

 Choose ONE of the following to redesign:

 o redesign a piece of clothing (perhaps for another season, or use in another style) o redesign a building exterior or interior (perhaps for another location or purpose) o redesign a graphic (perhaps a logo, an ad, website, or a poster) o redesign a product (perhaps a package, an object, or a display)

In your sketchbook, add a picture of the original item you are redesigning before creating your new design.

Your new design may be in the form of a drawing, a small model, or an actual product.

Write an artist’s statement to go along with your redesign assignment. You artist’s statement should explain: o WHY you chose to redesign that item (what problems did you encounter with the original design?) o The changes you made o WHY you remade it to look a certain way o HOW your redesigned item might function

6.

& 7. Work of Choice #1 and Work of Choice #2

 Show us your best! Your works of choice should help us get to know you as an individual, and give us the best understanding of your vision as a designer.

 Ideas may include, but are not limited to: o Ceramics o Sculpture o Jewelry o Clothing o Architectural model o Photography o Drawing o Painting o Fibers o Web design o Etc.
