Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra Fellows Program Announcement The Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra announces 9 openings as part of a new educational initiative. The Fellows Program gives orchestral playing opportunities to undergraduate string students in the Southern Wisconsin region. Students selected to the program will earn a travel stipend of $25 per rehearsal or concert. Openings are in the following instruments: violin (4), viola (2), cello (2), and bass (1). Repertoire November 16: Respighi Pines of Rome, Ravel Mother Goose Suite, Wagner Overture to Die Meistersinger, Haydn Violin Concerto in G Major, 1st movement (YACC winner) February 15: Beethoven 7, Brahms Academic Festival Overture, Arutunian Trumpet Concerto (with Christopher Martin, CSO principal) May 17: Shostakovich 5, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (Ari Vilhjalmsson, Icelandic Symphony) LGSO Fellow Requirements and Information 1. Applicants must be an undergraduate student for the 2013-14 academic year. 2. Preference will be given to music majors, but non-music majors are also welcome to apply and may be selected. 3. All 2013-14 LGSO Fellows will play in their university orchestras. 4. LGSO Fellows will be chosen by competitive audition and interview in late August/early September. 5. Audition will consist of a 3-minute excerpt from a standard concerto movement as well as 2 orchestral excerpts found on page 2. 6. For each LGSO rehearsal set, Fellows are allowed 2 absences. They will be paid $25 for each service. Fellows are welcome to attend all rehearsals but stipend allows for the 2 absences. 7. Rehearsals are every Thursday from 7:00 – 9:30pm in Lake Geneva or Williams Bay. An exact schedule is found on page 2. 8. Fellows must provide their own transportation. LGSO will assist as much as possible in finding carpool arrangements. 9. Talks by orchestra members will be offered throughout the year in topics such as, “Grad School audition tips,” “What life can be like as a free-lance musician,” and “A day in the life of a music educator.” Why Audition? 1. Additional orchestral experience 2. You get paid to play! (True, it’s not that much, but how else can you earn $700 by doing something you love to do anyway?) 3. You get the chance to hear from those in the field who were in your shoes just a few years before. This is great in terms of getting information, but also in networking. 4. You will be able to include, “LGSO Fellow, 2013-14” on your resumé.
