Sabanegh, Jr., MD, is Chairman of the Department of Urology and Professor of Surgery (Urology) at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He serves in a number of areas of leadership at Cleveland Clinic including the Board of Governors, Strategic Advisory Council, and Financial Planning Committee and is Vice-Chair of the Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute. He is Director of the Center for Male Fertility at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Sabanegh earned a Bachelor of Science and Engineering in Chemical Engineering at Princeton University, and he received his medical degree from the University of Virginia, College of Medicine in 1985. He performed his urology residency at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. In 1994, he completed an infertility/microsurgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Following that, he returned to San Antonio, Texas, where he served in the United States Air Force until 2006. In 2006, Dr. Sabanegh returned to Cleveland and joined the Department of Urology at Cleveland Clinic. Under his chairmanship, the Department of Urology was rated as the number one urology program in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report annual survey. His surgical interests include microsurgical reconstruction of the male reproductive tract and advanced sperm harvest techniques. His research interests include complex reconstructions for obstruction of the reproductive tract, fertility preservation in cancer patients, varicoceles and environmental influences on fertility. Dr. Sabanegh has published more than 130 scientific articles and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and has authored three textbooks on male fertility. Dr. Sabanegh is board-certified by the American Board of Urology. He is a past Chief Consultant for the Surgeon General of the United States Air Force. He holds active membership in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American Urologic Association and the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction and Urology. He is Assistant Editor for UROLOGY and has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Andrology, Journal of Urology, British Journal of Urology and Fertility and Sterility.
