Highlights include: Children's Medical Center Dallas is one of the nation’s largest children’s hospitals (459 beds) and is connected to the busiest neonatal and obstetric unit in the US (Parkland). The department includes six fellowship-trained pediatric urologists that see more than 3,500 children and perform over 1,500 operations per year. As of 2008, Children's Medical Center Dallas is one of the few standalone alone pediatric hospitals in the nation that owns a DaVinci surgical robot system and the fellowship program includes urologic robotic training. The program also provides intensive experience in neurogenic bladder management and reconstruction through our association with Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, with approximately 500 active urologic patients annually. The Division of Pediatric Urology includes the John Duckett Pediatric Urology Laboratory, directed by Dr. Linda Baker and NIH-funded. Didactic courses taught by faculty of the top-ranked Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center offer training in clinical research design and development, protocol design, and grant writing. The lab is involved in multiple collaborative efforts within the UT Southwestern system, home to more Nobel Laureates than any other US institution. The division is currently involved in a number of prospective randomized as well as cohort studies investigating a wide range of clinical areas, from stone formation to voiding dysfunction.
