Australian Catholic University, Faculty of Education and Arts Institute for Politics, Religion and Society Research Scholarship: Postgraduate Scholarship in Drafting Asian Religions The Australian Catholic University seeks applications for a 3 year, fully funded PhD scholarship to work with Professor Bryan S. Turner and Associate Professor Irfan Ahmad in the newly established Institute for Religion Politics and Society to work within the Research Stream titled ‘Asian Religion’, with a particular emphasis upon religiously motivated political conflict and solidarities in South Asia (India). This research stream will compliment and be interrelated with other programs within the Institute including Law and Religion, Cities and Successful Societies, Religion and Medicine and Global Catholicism. The PhD Student will undertake research with a particular emphasis upon political violence and solidarities and the evolution of religious minorities in South Asia. Based upon this research, the PhD student will submit two research articles for publication in journals and a high quality dissertation.. Academic criteria - Applicants should provide evidence of: Bachelor of Arts with Honours (HI or HIIA) or Bachelor of Laws, or a Masters in sociology, political science, anthropology, religious studies or a discipline applicable to the position; Research and Leadership Potential; Familiarity with the social science literature on the subject of research as well as more broadly with the academic literature on Religion in East Asia; and Excellent English (written and spoken) in the language(s) relevant to the project; and Experience in having conducted fieldwork-based research in the context of the broader study.
