We are Pilgrims. We are on a journey, travelling to meet the God of the past; to meet the God of the present, to meet the God of our future. What will you do here? Together we will discover things about this pilgrimage, ourselves and God. What will you find here? Together we will find fun, enjoyment and peace. What will you take from here? We will take all we have learned back to our schools, our homes and our families. We sing Our God is a great big God. Our God is a great big God. Our God is a great big God and he holds us in his hands. 3 He’s higher than a skyscraper. He’s deeper than a submarine. He’s wider than the universe, and beyond my wildest dreams. He’s known me and he’s loved me since before the world began. How wonderful to be a part of God’s amazing plan Our God is a great big God. Our God is a great big God. Our God is a great big God and he holds us in his hands. He’s higher than a skyscraper. Our God is a great big God. Our God is a great big God. Our God is a great big God and he holds us in his hands. And he holds us in his hands. Teachers and adults from your school will go with you and will help you find the Group Helper who will accompany you all day. 5 CLOSING WORSHIP Time to Reflect While we sit and wait there are pictures and music to help us reflect on what it means to be a pilgrim The Welcome Back Pilgrim Declaration Together let us affirm the words of a pilgrim We are Pilgrims. We are on a journey, travelling to meet the God of the past; to meet the God of the present, to meet the God of our future. Together we have discovered things about pilgrimage, ourselves and God. Together we have found fun, enjoyment and peace. Each of us will take what we have learned back to our schools, our homes and our families. Procession of School banners We stand to sing During the singing the schools banners are processed to the front I danced in the morning when the world was begun, 6 and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun; and I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth, at Bethlehem I had my birth. Dance then, wherever you may be I am the Lord of the dance, said he, and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be and I’ll lead you all in the Dance, said he. I danced for the scribe and the pharisee but they would not dance, and they wouldn't follow me. I danced for the fishermen, for James and John they came with me and the dance went on. Dance then, wherever you may be… I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame; the holy people said it was a shame. They whipped and they stripped and they hung me on high, and left me there on a cross to die. Dance then, wherever you may be… I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black; it's hard to dance with the devil on your back. They buried my body and they thought I’d gone; 7 but I am the Dance, and I still go on. Dance then, wherever you may be… They cut me down and I leapt up high; I am the life that’ll never, never die. I'll live in you, if you’ll live in me; I am the Lord, of the Dance, said he. Dance then, wherever you may be… W: Sydney Carter M: the Shaker tune “Gift to be Simple”. We sit for the Blessing the Banners Let us pray O God, the sign of all that is holy, all that is true, all that is life; bless the schools these banners represent: that they may be places of great education and learning, places of fun and happiness, where there is hospitality and welcome to all who enter them. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Saviour. Amen. The banners are processed The Talk 8 The Prayers Ending with The Lord’s Prayer Please use which ever version you wish Contemporary Language Traditional Language Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. We stand to sing During the singing lit candles are given to school representatives who then form a circle with the banners carriers 9 One more step along the world I go, One more step along the world I go; From the old things to the new, Keep me travelling along with you: And it's from the old I travel to the new; Keep me travelling along with you. Round the corners of the world I turn, More and more about the world I learn; All the new things that I see You'll be looking at along with me. And it's from the old I travel to the new; Keep me travelling along with you. As I travel through the bad and good, Keep me travelling the way I should. Where I see no way to go, You'll be telling me the way, I know. And it's from the old I travel to the new; Keep me travelling along with you. Give me courage when the world is rough, Keep me loving though the world is tough; Leap and sing in all I do, Keep me travelling along with you: And it's from the old I travel to the new; Keep me travelling along with you. You are older than the world can be, You are younger than the life in me; Ever old and ever new, Keep me travelling along with you: And it's from the old I travel to the new; Keep me travelling along with you. 10 We sit for the Blessing the Candles Let us pray Creator God, who brings light to the world, bless these candles; may they remind all of us of your presence in our lives in school; that you walk with us on our life’s pilgrimage, and you shine a light in our lives, in our schools and our homes. Amen. Notices and Instructions Final Blessing Know that as you leave here, God goes with us. As you take a step along the world, God goes with us. As you take a step from old things to new, God goes with us. Go safely on your pilgrimage through life, knowing that God goes with us. Amen. 11 Thank you so much for joining us for this celebration of pilgrimage. When you are ready please leave by the West Doors and don’t forget to collect any work you have done as you go. As you leave The Cathedral organ will process you out. 12
