AUTUMN TERM: 7.5 WEEKS + 7 WEEKS
Main Topic Titles: Dr Who visits Ancient Egypt and Victorian England

Pupils
explore
mythic
narratives and experiment
with a range of written forms
as they work towards writing
their own story. They are the
main character, Doctor Who,
in their stories and they travel
through Ancient Egypt and
Victorian England in order to
rescue the Doctor’s Daughter.
Pupils also read A Christmas
Carol this term.
Pupils
develop
their
functional numeracy skills
by ordering, and paying
for
breakfast,
every
morning. They familiarise
themselves
with
the
properties of 3D shapes
through a range of
practical activities and
learn different ways to
record
and
present
statistical data.
This term, pupils explore
the solar system with a
focus on the Earth, the
Sun and the Moon to
develop an understanding
of day and night, the four
seasons and the moon’s
phases.
Pupils also work on
separating materials this
term.
Throughout this term, pupils
will become familiar with a
range
of
computer
programmes that they might
use
to
enhance
and
communicate their learning.
They will use the internet to
carry out research tasks,
Microsoft Word to prepare
their stories for publishing
and PowerPoint to help them
communicate their learning.
Understanding
our
feelings and emotions
will be a important
focus in PSHE this term,
as well as personal
hygiene
and
the
importance of healthy
eating. They also learn
to
appreciate
the
benefits of exercise.

SPRING TERM: 6 WEEKS + 6 WEEKS
Main Topic Titles: Dr Who visits World War One
English
Pupils continue their Dr Who
stories as they write chapters set
in WW1. They earn Kung Fu
punctuation badges as they
develop their understanding of
grammar and punctuation. They
develop close reading skills as
they begin to analyse WW1
poetry and propaganda and read
War Horse in the second half
term. Pupils also develop their
speaking and listening skills as
they listen to, and discuss the
news every morning.

This term, pupils develop their
numeracy skills through a range of
activities with a WW1 theme. They
will
practise
addition
and
subtraction through the practical
application of money and will be
introduced to the concepts of
multiplication and division. They
will also become familiar with the
properties of various 2D and 3D
shapes as I create my own model
of a battlefield. They will also
develop the skills necessary to help
them learn to tell the time.
This term, they will be
learning how sound is
created. They will
explore how vibrations
travel to, and are then
received by, the ear
where messages are
communicated to the
brain. They will
experiment with a
range of scientific
equipment as they
learn how to measure
sound in decibels.
This term pupils will
continue to develop
their understanding
of ICT programmes
as they use
computers and iPads
to research and
communicate
information. They
will also learn to use
animation software
to produce their
own video clips.

As I become familiar with the
events of the First World War, I
will learn about the difference
between primary and secondary
sources of information, as well as
considering the contrast between
then and now. I will also become
more
confident
identifying
different geographical regions
and the difference between
human and physical features.
This term, pupils will be exploring
the different sounds created by a
range of musical instruments.
They will develop an understanding
of how mood is created through
multi-media based on the theme of
natural disasters.
This term pupils will
develop their coordination and
teamwork skills
through gymnastic
activities, as well as
invasion games like
rugby and a tightly
planned boxercise
programme.
In Art and D&T this
term, pupils will
study
different
artists’
representations of,
and the symbols of,
the First World War.
