5-The Code of Life The Fingerprints of God Pastor Mike Cooke 1. God A. B. C. created each of the living creatures with their own “kind.” Small and large sea animals to fill the domain of SEA. Birds to fill the domain of SKY. (Genesis 1:20-22) Land animals to fill the domain of LAND. (Genesis 1:24-25) 2. Where are humans and animals in the grand scheme of the cosmos? A. The solar system is 12 orders of magnitude above us. B. DNA is 8 orders of magnitude below us. 3. DNA. The “Central Dogma” of Molecular Biology is DNA. A. There are 30 trillion cells in the human body, every one has our B. chain. C. 4. DNA molecules are made up of 3.5 billion characters. 1) Genetic Code assembles the 4 nucleotides (A,T,C,G) into triplets. 2) The groupings translate into 64 possible codons. 3) The codons signify 20 different amino acids. 4) Some are redundant, preventing errors and mutations. 5) Some are stops punctuating the end of the polypeptide RNA translates information stored in the DNA to form proteins. 1) Each cell replicates its own cell. 2) Each species replicates its own species. All cells have a limit to their repair mechanisms. A. Oxidizing agents (free radicals, hydrogen peroxide), alkylating agents (chemotherapy), and electromagnetic radiation (x-rays, ultraviolet rays) can damage the DNA sequence. B. Because of limitations in the DNA repair mechanism, all humans would develop cancer if they lived long enough. C. Natural DNA damage also accumulates over time, causing us to age. Romans 8:20-21 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
