The purpose of this Association shall be to further the interests of Kansas Wesleyan University in the cause
of education, and to establish and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between the University and
it’s Alumni.

Mission Statement: The KWU Alumni Association is dedicated to serving Kansas Wesleyan University
alumni, students and friends by supporting the mission, tradition and goals of the university. The Association
assists in the recruitment of students, supports the development of resources to advance the university and
engages in activities to enhance the university’s reputation locally and around the globe.

The Alumni Association is a membership organization that connects alumni, students and friends through
faith, communications, activities, programs and services. The Association develops and supports volunteer
leadership, serves as a voice for alumni and provides life-long learning opportunities.

Vision Statement: The KWU Alumni Association will engage all alumni in involvement at KWU by sharing
their time, talent, gifting and services.

ARTICLE ONE

NAME AND MEMBERSHIP

Section 1.
This organization shall be known as the Kansas Wesleyan University Alumni Association.

Section 2.
All former students who have completed twenty-four semester hours or more at the University and persons
who have attended the Kansas Wesleyan Business College, or the Academy, are eligible members of the
Association with voting privileges. All members are required to pay annual dues as determined by the
current Alumni Council.

Section 3.
Any person who is or has been a member of the faculty or staff of the University or who is a friend of the
University and desires to support the activities of the Association, may become an Associate Member of
the Association by application and acceptance to the Alumni Association. All associate members shall be
required to pay annual dues as determined by the current alumni council. Associate members may
participate in all functions of the Association except holding office or voting.

Section 4.
Special membership categories (honorary, lifetime) may be designated by the Alumni Council
voting membership.

Section 5.
The membership and Association Fiscal Year shall coincide with the Kansas Wesleyan University Fiscal
Year, July 1 to June 30. Membership dues paid during homecoming activities shall be valid for the
remainder of the Fiscal year.

ARTICLE TWO

Section 1.
The Alumni Council shall consist of elected Alumni Association Officers representing such geographical
areas and/or class agents as may be determined from time to time by the Alumni Council.

Section 2.
The Alumni Council shall be responsible for determining and implementing policies and programs for the
Alumni Association that supports the Preamble of this Constitution and establishes annual objectives.

Section 3.
Committees of the Alumni Association will be designed by the Council members. Each committee will be
chaired by a Council member, and each committee may consist of Alumni members and Associate
members.

Section 4.
Officers of the Alumni Council shall be the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Members
at Large, to include at least one and no more than two Kansas Wesleyan University Board of Trustee
members appointed by the Board of Trustees Chair, and one current Kansas Wesleyan University student, who
has completed at least 24 credit hours, to be appointed by the Student Body President. The term of each officer
shall be for one year or until the successor is elected, unless such officer shall resign. Any vacancies will be
filled for the unexpired term by a majority vote of the Council. All officers shall be elected at the Alumni
Association Meeting held during homecoming.

Section 5.
The responsibilities of the Alumni Council Officers are as follows:
a. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Alumni Council and perform such other duties
as the Council or the officers of the Council shall direct.
b. The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in his/her absence.
c. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of all meetings of the officers of the Council. In absence of
the President and Vice-President, the Secretary shall assume the duties of the President.
d. The Treasurer shall be responsible to report an account of the funds for the Council. In the
absence of the other Council officers, the Treasurer shall assume the duties of the President.
e. In the absence of Council officers, a Member at Large shall assume the duties of the Secretary or
Treasurer. The Member at Large shall also assume all duties mutually agreed upon with other
Council officers.

Section 6.
Meetings of the Alumni Association shall be at such times and places as the officers of the Alumni Council
shall direct. At least one meeting shall be held during the Homecoming activities of the University.
Any two of the members of the Alumni Council may call a meeting of the Council upon written notice of 15
days or more to a majority of the members of the Council.

Section 7.
To the extent possible, the Alumni Council shall finance the activities of the Alumni Council and the
Alumni Association from sources other than funds of the University or funds available to the University for
its general operating needs.

Section 1.
Any amendment to this Constitution shall be proposed by a member of the Alumni Council and shall be
approved by a majority of the members of the Association in attendance at the Homecoming alumni meeting.
