FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Alexa A. Baldwin, Director of Marketing Athens Theatre Tel: (386)736-1500 Email: alexa@athensdeland.com THE COG IS DEAD - ONE OF THE TOP 5 STEAMPUNK BANDS IN THE WORLD WILL FILM THEIR FEATURE CONCERT MOVIE AT THE ATHENS ON JUNE 6th DELAND-Their name may be "The Cog is Dead," but on June 6th they will be rocking the Athens LIVE in a steampunk concert movie event the likes of which DeLand has never seen! The Cog is Dead is an internationally known band whose theatrical costumes and story-driven lyrics fall under the category of "steampunk," a Victorian era inspired kind of science fiction that has rapidly been growing in popularity in recent years and has been showing up in art, fashion, movies, music, video games, theater and just about anywhere else one can apply creativity. For The Cog is Dead they've fused the concept of a traditional touring band with the costumes and theatricality of a theater show, creating back stories for the characters they portray in the act. The trio make up a crew of time travelers from the 1890s who are on a continuing journey across time to spread their music to all and encourage the world to return to the "good ol' days" of Victorian charm, pocket watches and steam powered machines. The critically acclaimed show consists of upbeat and exciting music in a wide variety of styles (which they claim is inspired by the various eras they've visited) that has been widely praised for its diversity, quality and for being just plain fun! As Daily Steampunk put it, "The Cog is Dead display a versatility I have seldom seen, or rather, heard, before... they cover an astonishing range of musical styles and prove masters of them all." Excellent music mixed with entertaining characters, jokes, theatrical costumes and video projections make for an enthralling production that has been described as an awesome musical rollercoaster ride! Though they've traveled and performed at the largest steampunk events in the world and regularly share the stage with major steampunk acts like Abney Park and Steam Powered Giraffe - and in 2014 were even voted one of the top five steampunk bands in the world - this time traveling trio are natives of DeLand, making this concert filming event a very special homecoming show! When the little band from DeLand was forming in 2006 their sole goal was to simply try to write good music and have fun, never dreaming that they would someday have thousands of fans and be flown out to perform around the country or play a show on the main stage at Dragon Con. For them it's still a bit perplexing that on a regular basis fans in other countries tell them that The Cog is Dead is their favorite band, since they still feel like the little guys from DeLand, but they're honored that so many people enjoy what they do. Cameras will be rolling as the entire concert will be filmed as the bands first feature length concert film! The outstanding DeLand based production team And You Films will be heading up video production at the event as cameras and crew members capture the entire show for this special movie release. And You Films is the accomplished team behind 2 feature films including Flashback which had its world premiere at the Athens and has gone on to be represented at the market of the Cannes Film Festival and received international distribution on DVD and video on demand services around the world. This is a very special event for bot the City of DeLand and the Athens that will be filmed and released on video around the world! Everyone is welcome to come and attend this one night only concert event and be in the audience as the cameras roll to create this milestone concert movie for this little band that started in DeLand.
