Mission Mattehw 28 Embedded Missionary The embedded missionary works on behalf of the Mission Matthew 28 board and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, teaching English, religious lessons, and leading youth activities in Lutheran Church-Hong Kong Synod (LC-HKS) churches and schools. The embedded missionary position is geographically located in Hong Kong (HK), China. I. Ministry in Personal Life and Conduct a. An Embedded Missionary should be faithful in his/her use of God’s Word and the Lord’s Supper. b. He/she should have his/her house in order as a means of witnessing to Christ’s Lordship in his/her own personal affairs. c. He/she should exemplify a good example when it comes to the fourth commandment “Honor your father and your mother”, as the bulk of their job is instructing children. d. He/she should be a good steward of time, talents and treasures as a minister in this Christian schools and entities where they are embedded. e. He/she strive to at all times display the light of Christ through a positive attitude, a hopeful mentality, and rest fully in the knowledge that God always has their back. II. Missionary Preparation and Coaching a. Participate in all prescribed missionary training programs provided before the experience and during service in Hong Kong; provided by Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Mission Matthew 28 and the Lutheran Church-Hong Kong Synod. This may also include attending retreats / fellowship events held by LCMS World Mission staff in Hong Kong. b. Meet regularly, via Skype or FaceTime with US based mission support supervisor from Mission Matthew 28 Board. c. Meet regularly with Hong Kong based, on-site supervisor from the LC-HKS for ongoing coaching, training, teaching and ministry day to day scheduling and assignments. d. Meet as directed by your Hong Kong supervisor with individual school principals, teachers, and church representatives. III. Missionary Duties a. Participate fully in all onsite and Hong Kong city life orientation training upon arrival in HK. b. Participate fully in all curriculum, lesson planning training, and missionary duty training upon arrival in HK. c. In coordination with the regular classroom teacher, plan for and carry out English and religious lessons according to the schedule assigned by your Hong Kong supervisor, teachers and principals. d. Carry out assigned leadership duties within assigned churches. These consist of religious lessons, games, and other opportunities all designed to present the Gospel to children, youth and adults. e. Always be prepared to understand and seek out opportunities to communicate the basic Gospel message and incorporate it into English and religious lessons as well as personal conversations and friendships with adults and children. f. Always be prepared to live the life of a servant. There will be times that you will be asked to fulfill a function that is outside of your routine, or a bit outside your comfort zone. A missionary always strives to try their best with a cheerful heart, a can-do attitude, and a spirit of serving the greater good to bring glory to Jesus Christ. The Basic Gospel Message: God created us to be in a relationship with Him. Our sin separates us from God. Sin cannot be removed by good deeds. Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again. Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life. Life eternal means we will be with Jesus in heaven forever. IV. Role modeling ability Responds calmly and effectively to crisis situations Ability to be flexible and patient Outstanding listening and problem solving skills Does not discriminate in interactions based on gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion or disability. Be willing to submit a felony/misdemeanor statement as well as pass relevant background investigations of Mission Matthew 28, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church-Hong Kong Synod. Submit a Health Information Report, a ministry application, and other forms Be computer literate with a working knowledge of the standard array of related programs Be willing to travel extensively within the city of Hong Kong’s and handle multiple assignments at multiple schools and churches. Be punctual, on-time, and consistent in ones ability to complete the assigned daily schedule which includes various activities 6 days per week. Respond within a two day time period to communications from Mission Matthew 28 leadership whether via email, text, phone call, FaceTime or Skype. Produce a monthly newsletter to be sent to Mission Matthew 28 leadership and missionary supporters. Communicate concerns or issues in a Christ like manner to Mission Matthew 28 leadership. To serve and live in a Christ like manner, loving others and working with them as outlined in God’s Holy word. V. Accountability a. This position works closely with all appropriate Beautiful Savior and Hong Kong synodical staff and Mission Matthew 28 board members. Functionally, he/she is directly accountable to three people: For missionary development, fundraising, Christian living, communications and Mission Matthew 28 related issues; he/she is accountable to the Executive Director of Mission Matthew 28 and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. For day to day duties while on the ground serving in Hong Kong, he/she is accountable to the LC-HKS Missionary supervisor. The Embedded Missionary also will receive direction and coaching from appropriate school principals, teacher mentors and church leaders at the schools in which they are assigned. Evaluations will be conducted on a regular basis for the purpose of coaching each missionary to perform to the glory of God and the best of his/her ability. Each missionary will find multiple networking opportunities with missionaries from other sending agencies while on the ground in Hong Kong, and may even be assigned to work closely with them. For clarity of communication and proactive goal setting however, accountability remains only with the three people listed above.
