These are usually organized and conducted by the department with the help of volunteer students from the various An unofficial meeting with one of the admins from the Moderate Done 4 December department of Students Activities colleges in the University. Media coverage is organized by the media team in the department of external relations. The series of events are usually planned approximately a month or two before the week of celebrations. Task General observations and recommendations after the event Many departments have taken parts in the national day celebrations; these were demonstrated by decorating offices and corridors, as well as organizing small gatherings and buffets for their faculty and students. This, as it seems, attracts many students who favored departments that are very engaged in such social events. It has been noticed that most of these departments were from social sciences. Those departments activities have transformed the main Women’s Building into an avenue for everyone to celebrate, leaving by that the Science Building, which includes the concerned scientific departments, somewhat deserted. Recommendations: each of the concerned scientific departments in CAS should invest more in organizing their own celebrations as this will engage their current students and faculty more, which will serve to showcase them and attract more students in the future. Task Objective 1: Find out who, in CAS, is involved in activities celebrating the Qatari Culture, “Cultural Village” 28 February to 1 March 2012 Activities celebrating Qatari culture take the form of a three days event that consists of a series of events organized by the students’ activities department in both male and women sections. These events are also planned An unofficial meeting with one of the admins from the Moderate Done in advance before the week of celebrations. The grand 20 February department of Students Activities celebration takes the stand whereby it recognizes others culture and heritage as vital as its own. In other words, the event does not only celebrate the Qatari culture and the heritage but also other people’s culture and heritage. 2 General observations and recommendations after the event Many departments have made sure to engaged their students and faculty in such social events. There were some departments that sent broadcasts about the event to their students and faculty to remind them about the event . This seems to also encourage students and faculty involvement in the event. The University usually sends broadcasts and reminders about such events to everyone at the University. However, as it seems, many ignore emails or broadcasts that do not come directly from their own departments as they do not recognize the importance of following up with everything that happens at the university. Perhaps, if every department tries to engage itself by at least sending a broadcast back or a reminder to their students and faculty, the level of engagement of these department in such events will rise. This can in turn contribute to their level of popularity and thereby attraction of students. 3
