Mission
To provide innovative and Person Centred solutions for people with Autistic
Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities irrespective of where and how they live,
to improve their quality of life and to extend and exercise their rights to access
more control over their lives.
Organisation
Autism Plus is a charity committed to improving the life of people with Autistic
Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities. The charity was formed in 1986 by a
group of parents of autistic children. Autism Plus offers a range of services,
including Residential, Supporting Living, Respite, Adult Learning/Day Service,
Community Support and Domiciliary Care.
Job summary
This role will entail working with individuals with autism both from our own care
services but also those accessing this provision alone and through various
projects.
You will be required to work within the Training Enterprise as part of a team
where your main goal will be to improve the life opportunities for a range of
individuals with autism.
This role will involve delivering group courses to individuals with autism on
confidence building, assertiveness, employability – this will be working with our
existing training enterprise team. You will be required to contribute to the
development of course materials and be pro-active in developing ideas and
innovative methods of support.
You will also work with a range of individuals on a 1:1 basis, either in our own
care homes or those referred directly to First Routes. This will entail supporting
individuals in a person centered manner to overcome barriers and progress
towards voluntary work/ further education and/or employment.
The role will require supporting individuals at all stages of the skills pathway from
engagement and confidence building through to developing employability skills
and also supporting individuals in the workplace as a job coach.
This will be a very varied role, therefore the individual needs to be pro-active and
have a flexible approach to their job role.
Our training enterprise team is constantly developing new projects and you will
be involved in developing ideas for these projects and have the opportunity to be
involved in delivering elements of new projects as and when funding is secured.
Key responsibilities
Support to individuals with Autism

To enable individuals to become as independent as possible and to grow in
confidence, ability and personal effectiveness in the following areas;





Social skills/relationships
Using community resources and facilities
Self organization/motivation and coping abilities
Preparation towards voluntary work and/ or paid
employment
Increasing confidence and communications skills with the
aim of supporting progression
To achieve this through support, practical assistance, teaching, advice,
role modeling, encouragement and positive feedback.

Promote non-discriminatory practices and respect and promote the rights
of people with ASC, learning difficulties, complex needs and mental health
issues.

To ensure that the highest levels of performance and standards of work
are achieved, in line with CQC outcomes and Autism Plus policies and
procedures.

Working within the framework of Person Centred Planning and BILD
ensure that individuals receive the support to enable them to develop a
valued and socially meaningful lifestyle which includes a wide variety of
culturally and age appropriate experiences building on the aspirations,
strengths and needs of the service user.

Safeguarding knowledge awareness and understanding of the
Safeguarding policies and procedures. Attend training including Mental
Capacity and Best Interest

Ensure that adequate records are kept for each service user in line with
Autism Plus policies and procedures. Protect the confidentiality of personal
information and ensure that the information is only disclosed to those who
have a right and need to know.

To encourage and support individuals in expressing their needs, views and
concerns. To enable individuals make choices and decisions and participate
as fully as possible in planning and decision making processes.

Ensure the needs of the individuals are considered at all times, taking into
consideration their autism and any other sensory, physical, learning
disabilities or mental health needs. (This includes personal care).

Develop meaningful and trusting relationships with individuals to enhance
their confidence, self esteem, personal development and general sense of
wellbeing.

Together with individuals and members of the staff team, assess, plan,
implement and evaluate individual support/care plans in order to enhance
and maximise the capabilities and independence of the individuals.

In line with statutory requirements and following good practice, contribute
both verbally and written to service user reviews, support planning and
person centred planning meetings as required.

Maintain records
appropriately.

Enable individuals to maintain relationships with their family and friends as
appropriate and encourage new relationships to develop from accessing
community based activities

Build knowledge of employment, training and personal development
opportunities in the area suitable for individuals and share this information
with your colleagues and management.

To build personal development plans for the individuals with your team
leader.

To implement an individuals personal development plan in a personcentred way.

To support individuals to record and monitor their progress themselves
helping to meet realistic aims and objectives they have set.

including early mornings, evening, weekends, nights and bank holidays.

Any other duties as reasonably requested, relative to the objectives of the
post.
