Good Clean Game Launch!
Maribyrnong City Council is delighted to announce the launch of the ‘Good Clean Game’ Sports Club Waste Management
Program.
The program will be rolled out across Maribyrnong sports grounds and pavilions this September and will see participating
sports clubs receive garbage and recycling bins as well as weekly kerbside collections, all free of charge.
How the program will benefit your Club:
-
Free Council managed waste management services including supply and
collection of allocated bins
Opportunity to recycle within a Club environment
Consistency in kerbside collection dates of garbage and recycling bins
New Sports Club bins that are distinguishable from residential and
commercial bins
Safe bin storage options limiting bin vandalism and theft
Reduction in match day litter and overall improvement of sports ground
aesthetics
Diversion of waste from landfill
Clubs will receive individually tailored Welcome Packs to the program and a ‘Good Clean Game’ Seminar will be held at
Council offices on Wednesday 10 September for more information.
2014/15 Council Budget
Council’s new budget came into effect on July 1.

Capital Works Update
Council undertakes a number of Capital Works projects each year, from a range of small capital projects such as
the installation of goal posts to large pavilion refurbishments.
Kindersmith Reserve Pavilion
Extension
Tenant Clubs: Sunshine Football Club and
Sunshine YCW Cricket Club
Status: Completed August 2014
Project Cost: $293,803
Scope: Pavilion extension to incorporate
accessible and inclusive amenities, umpires
room, curators shed, storeroom and bin
storage area.

What’s News?
Swifts team with Bulldogs
Maribyrnong Swifts Soccer Club teamed with the Western Bulldogs to run a
Girls Only Soccer Clinic on May 17.
The clinic, held at Johnson Reserve in West Footscray, offered the young girls
from the Western Bulldogs CALD Community Women's program an
opportunity to test their soccer skills in a come and try environment.
“They are not often given this kind of opportunity and all of the girls love
soccer. The girls who came had a blast!” Maribyrnong Swifts committee
member Jac Piper told Council.
Yarraville Tennis Club honour 40 year
veteran at Club AGM
Over 50 Club members attended the Yarraville Tennis
Club’s AGM on Sunday 27 July to celebrate Peter
Anderson’s illustrious commitment to the Club. Peter
hung up his accounts after 40 years as the Club’s
Treasurer.

AFL Multicultural Round (July 18 – 27)
The West Footscray Football Club Juniors were
featured in the AFL multicultural round
advertisement.

A special presentation was made to Peter with the Club
unveiling a plaque that will be mounted in his honour.
The Club has a proud history of long serving volunteers
with President, Graeme Richardson and Secretary, Ken
Jones (both pictured below with Peter) also
celebrating 27 years and 44 years respectively at the
Club in 2014.
Following the presentation to Peter, the passed two
motions at the meeting which acknowledged the Club’s
founders and the contribution the club has made to the
enjoyment of four generations of members, their
families, friends of the club, opposition competitors
and visitors.
VU Sponsorship Assistance Program
Victoria University (VU) and Maribyrnong sports
clubs have teamed up for a third year to take part
in the Sponsorship Assistance program.
The following Clubs will work with VU students to
create a Club specific sponsorship proposal that the
Clubs will get to keep –

Maribyrnong City Council is excited to announce that the ‘Spring into Summer series’ will kick off on Monday 20
October, 2014.
The Spring into Summer series, which is part of Council’s Active Maribyrnong Initiative, is a series of FREE 6-week
courses in a range of health and wellbeing areas.
All courses will be delivered in Maribyrnong’s open spaces and are designed to showcase a range of the available
activities within the municipality. Courses will include:



Yoga
Pilates
‘Wheel women’ cycling program (4 week course)



Tai Chi
Teen boot camp
Walking group



Group fitness circuit
All-Girls In2Cricket
Maribyrnong Parkrun


Parents and bubs
Women’s only yoga
